Kurtzman sunk two cinematic universes before the Nu Trek streaming verse. All things relative.
Kinberg was probably the best Paramount could afford at this point.
I agree.
That's why I used past tense about the MCU.
Still a far more profitable and lucrative franchise to be apart of, compared to Nu Trek. He made a wise decision.
If some can accept the failures of Kurtzman and Akiva Goldsman, Simon Kinberg is fine. No doubt he's dropped the ball many times, but also produced Deadpool, X-Men Days of Future Past and wrote it, First Class (my favorite) and Logan.
At the very least, he's Kurtzman-level.
Hopefully Toby...
Star Trek 2009 was a major win. It rejuvenated the dead franchise and made Star Trek 'cool' for mainstream mass audiences, temporarily. It did well enough that the existing aging Trek fanbase really didn't matter, it wasn't made for them.
Paramount just dropped the ball with the uninspired...
SNW could continue beyond five seasons.
There's a second leading man in the wings for it.
It could even cover the years after TOS Season 3.
Academy, as a YA series, won't have much appeal. SNW is needed to keep streaming trek afloat.
Congrats to Matalas. Hopefully his team gets to work on the VisionQuest series as well. I know some were on this forum back then.
He's got a bright future with Kevin Feige at Marvel. Perhaps even following Matt Shakman to direct/produce the films down the line...
The Romulan War movie doesn't need to call back to anything from Enterprise.
It's essentially a blank canvas. All the audience needs to know is Earth and Vulcan are allies after First Contact, and a secretive invading alien force (Romulans) is trying to destabilize that alliance. Romulans...
Discovery, Lower Decks and Prodigy were all cancelled because their smaller audience numbers and limited appeal don't justify their current costs.
Strange New Worlds, however, pulls in good viewership. It could potentially go more than 5 years. Especially if Paul Wesley will take over as...
I think at this point, a clean slate is the best way to build a new, younger fanbase from a business POV.
It doesn't have to be a reboot, but a logical entry point for new audiences that doesn't require having existing knowledge of the Trekverse.
We are at moment where the Star Wars...
According to the Trades, it looks like the Star Trek origins film will be the first to lens (Q4 this year supposedly).
When should it take place? What would you like to see in it?
IMO this film is Paramount's best bet to build a new mass audience for Star Trek. The approach of going back to...
Probably why I like the character.
Kingsman and Bourne is more my style.
To be fair, all the Nu Trek shows have been relying too heavily on 'callbacks' lately.
I believe it's because they've realized these streaming shows are only playing to the existing aging fanbase.
Starfleet Academy...
He also is actively encouraging fans to be vocal for it. He said that several times, including in The Trades (Variety I believe).
He just said there's nothing happening with it right now, as far as he can say. Frakes, Jeri, Stashwick and the other actors have been active about it on social...
I gave you the Nielson links. None of the images are modified. They're all direct numbers from the Nielson website. And it's an industry trusted metric used by everyone from the aforementioned Forbes, to Hollywood Reporter, Variety and all the other industry trades. Nielson streaming data is...
I noticed his scenes were pretty well received by reviewers. He's very much a Kirk/Tom Paris type and you need that when you have such a stoic Captain.
Theres potential here for playful chemistry;
Though honestly (and this is just a theory, not inside baseball), if Matalas, Monfette and the...
He's got the charm. That Han Solo swagger. Good chemistry with Jeri. He brings the levity that plays against her more serious delivery. It's a classic dynamic.
I agree with the similarities to Kelvin Kirk.
Jack definitely. He's the replacement for JLP, so the story can continue without Patrick.
The others aren't needed.
There's room for brand new characters and alien races with a 25th century Trek show. Unchartered territory to explore, with no fixed endpoint.
