What is happening with Star Trek literature?

On the other hand, if they have books in stores and not enough are buying them they're paying to have books shipped and then remaindered. Retail stores in general is getting slammed lately.

What happened to Star Trek Magazine

I don't understand why this is always so frustrating. I recently received a notification that it was time to renew my subscription after having received one magazine. Then the most recent issue arrived a few days ago, but I don't think I received digital supplements for either of them. Not sure...

    2024 book releases

I'm pleased to see more overlap/crossover between eras and properties in these new books. I like that per se and it's also nice given the reduced release schedule.

Obverse Books releasing The Gold Archive

They announced that the line is officially ended: Obverse Books is sad to announce that, due to Paul Simpson’s retirement following his recent serious heart attack, we have decided to bring the Gold Archive to an end after only three volumes. When considered launching the Gold Archive in...

Spoilers Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - Pike series and novel continuity

One of the things I like about not having a visual imagination is that I rarely notice things like identical corridors. I occasionally notice reused stuff -- like the re-used shot in Generations, or the repeated Cardassia exteriors in DS9 -- but for the most part this kind of thing isn't even on...

IDW Star Trek the Motion Picture Echoes

Maybe they're taking notes from the SNW writers. Not sure what's going on there -- are the writers just siloed from other elements of production? Is there not time/staff for editing? But in the 80s they'd have delivered something like "We're going back . . . of the future." Also reminds me of...

Spoilers Star Trek: Prodigy and the Novels

With the recently announced news of Paramount's desperate tax write-off shenanigans, I wonder if Prodigy will sort of disappear from licensing or whether it may be open to continuing in prose.

I can dig it. I'm thinking sort of Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina/Tales from Jabba's Palace -- unrelated but occasionally overlapping stories about people who happen to be at the same place at the same time.

    2024 book releases

GaryH found one! With luck there will be several more to come later in the year! Star Trek: Picard — Firewall (02/2024) by David Mack: Two years after the USS Voyager’s return from the Delta Quadrant, Seven of Nine finds herself rejected for a position in Starfleet…and instead finds a new home...

I think this merits a new thread!

You might want to check out Mere Anarchy. All TOS but similar concept. It would be cool to do over a longer timeframe too. https://www.simonandschuster.com/books/Star-Trek-Mere-Anarchy/Margaret-Wander-Bonanno/Star-Trek-The-Original-Series/9781416594949

I'd like to see a book where characters we haven't seen interact get to interact. What would a conversation between Eddington and Ro look like? What if O'Brien and Kim had a group therapy session for sole survivors from an alternate universe/timeline? Did young Tuvok ever meet old T'Pol? I...

This just shipped. Looking forward to reading it.

    Typhon Pact Trade Paperbacks?

Yeah, ever since I got an unexpected POD trade I've made a point of always seeking out the original mmpb, with a few exceptions like Ex Machina which was re-set for the new format.

Spoilers New Picard TV Series and Litverse Continuity (may contain TV show spoilers)

It's been so long since I've read Shatnerverse but it is sure something. Conspiracy to the highest level! The Dominion, sort of! And Vadic makes it seem so personal! And then just kidding let's pivot back to the borg!

Spoilers New Picard TV Series and Litverse Continuity (may contain TV show spoilers)

Not to mention wasn't there the assimilation-linking thing in Picard S2?

    You're the Editor: 2024 Edition

I agree 100% with the e-book or e-novella originals, as well as with finding a home for Visitor's book. Also obviously with making sure that the current/recent TV shows are represented. I don't know if they'll move forward past Picard yet, but some novels filling in Worf's and Seven's stories...

    2023 book releases

Right? I wonder -- is it because they're not selling enough to be profitable? I wonder whether, counterintuitively, having more books would help sell better -- it may be difficult to maintain interest when there are such lengthy gaps in between new books. Or maybe the newer generation of Trek...

    2023 book releases

Yeah, Amazon's search function is horrible. One wonders how these things get worse over time but it starts to make sense when you realize they're no longer primarily a bookstore and that their business is pushing sponsored items, Amazon-brand items, and popular items rather than helping people...
