Favorite Trek Book Covers of All Time – and Why!

I always liked the "Captain's table" covers, "The Quiet Place", "Articles of the Federation", the "Avatar" books, and all the Vanguard covers.

What is the lowest stakes novel written?

"Lusts Latinum Lost (And Found)" is a pretty low stakes tale, as is "Rules of Accusation".

Spoilers PIC: The Dark Veil by James Swallow - Review Thread

I'm going to skip this. The Picard series is the only Star Trek that I've genuinley disliked, to the point where I wish they hadn't made it. The future it presented is just not reconcilable as the future of the TNG/DS9/VOY era. I mostly enjoyed the Titan series, so reading a book where most of...

What did you read in 2020?

I started the year doing a lot of reading, but it tailed off a bit in the last few months, so overall i read less than any recent year. I've always enjoyed Bernard Cornwells books, so i started reading some other historical fiction authors ( Ben Kane and Conn Iggulden). I made a start on The...

Your top 10 Star Trek games?

I'm not sure I've played ten Star Trek games, as I don't enjoy computer games, and many games seem battle based, which doesn't feel like it captures the spirit of Star Trek to me. I did absolutely love the original Star Trek Customizable Card Game from Decipher, though. I played that for many...

Best Book for a Specific Character

Off the top of my head, some novels I enjoyed as good character pieces: The Way to the Stars - Tilly Once Burned - Calhoun Immortal Coil - Data The Captain's Oath - Kirk But the best character novel is A Stitch in Time. One of the few Trek novels I've read multiple times.

Being a discussion of the various merits and drawbacks of physical books and e-books

I like physical books, but I've been a big ebook user ever since Kindles were available in the UK. I'm in the process of moving. These days I have dozens of physical books, and over a thousand digital books. If they were all physical copies, moving would be more difficult!

Spoilers DSC: The Way to the Stars by Una McCormack Review Thread

Finished this earlier, and really enjoyed it. Tilly is probably my favourite character in Discovery, and the book captured her character very well, I thought.

What Did You Read in 2018?

I remember thinking it was "ok" but not great. The plot is decidedly unmemorable, though, as I already dont remember what it was.

What Did You Read in 2018?

I think the IDW continuity is genuinely the best one. There are a few rough patches, but overall its very well written, particularly the post-war "phase two" era - More Than Meets The Eye and its sequel Lost Light are brilliant, and well worth the read. Theres a lot of "world building" in...

What Did You Read in 2018?

I read 52 books, and a ton of comics/Graphic novels. I read the least treklit of any recent year. A lot of graphic novels later in the year were part of a re-read of the IDW Transformers continuity, due to its ending this year. 2018 Reading Novels and Novellas January Apprentice: Scarlett...

Spoilers DS9: I, the Constable by Paula M. Block & Terry J. Erdmann Review Thread

Just read this one this morning. This is the first DS9 novel for some time that really felt like it vould have been an episode of the show. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I like the novella format, as it allows a good story thats not overly padded, unlike a lot of the recent novels.

What's more important, good story telling or adherence to continuity?

Ive watched Star Trek since I was very young. My mother watched TOS when it first aired, and introduced me to it at a young age. I grew up in the TNG-DS9 era. I love Star Trek. And I'm really enjoying Discovery. Ive not looked forward so much to a new episode each week since the first airing of...

Why haven't the prime universe Kelven and Franklin shown up novels?

Maybe we can also get an explanation of how the supernova THREATENED THE ENTIRE GALAXY!!!

Why haven't the prime universe Kelven and Franklin shown up novels?

That was always my thought as well, that theres nothing in Star Trek-09 to tell us that *only* the Nerada and Spock's ship time travelled, thats just all we see depicted. Anything could have gone through and exited earlier. Even something small could have resulted in the changes we saw, as you...
