    Shuttle bay interior....

I suppose the TOS hangar bay was larger than it needed to be... for the Galileo shuttlecraft we saw. I imagine the hangar was sized in order to accommodate other, larger shuttles we never saw. Or for other larger alien vessels that might be encountered. Or maybe as a large staging area the...

    Fusion vs AM warp drives

The Spaceflight Chronology features Earth's pre-warp vessels, the advent of warp drive, and beyond. They have some details about Earth's most advanced fusion ship, right before Earth's first warp drive ship. Here are the specs, make of it what you will-- UNSS Icarus sub-light explorer, launched...

    Pre-Warp ships

Nice work, good ideas. There are not many pre-warp vessels in ST, but check out the Spaceflight Chronology for some ideas and history. Quite as few sub-light spacecraft in there. It's licensed and illustrated by Rick Sternbach so that's good enough for me as far as "official".

    Transporter invented when?

I can believe a long development time with transporter tech. Early use, only inanimate objects, cargo purposes. This is standard use for years. Living organic matter transport years after that. Human transport decades later? I don't think first use, first time out would be human transporters.

    Transporter invented when?

It's not canon now but I always thought the Spaceflight Chronology had an interesting take on transporter development. According to the timeline, human transporters are still fairly new in TOS. Significantly, human transporters didn't happen until Daystrom's duotronics breakthrough (presumably...

    Warp Convoys

Oh, you've got my attention with The Spaceflight Chronology! I agree, these super-convoys make sense and would have to exist. ST has always shown individual freighters and cargo ships, because it's always old Earth sea-faring analogies. And sure, singular trader ships and supply vessels would...

Were there other Enterprises between the NX-01 and the NCC-1701?

If there is a gap, it might be intentional. One extreme view might contend that there MUST be an "Enterprise" in the fleet at all times. Another view could consider "Enterprise" namesake as special and should be "saved" for a special vessel, leading to a gap with no "Enterprise". For some...

What would you do with a transporter?

I'd use the transporter to transport myself somewhere else. I wonder what would be too ridiculous for transporter use. Our current modes of transportation (bicycle, automobile, airplane, ship, walking, train, etc) have different commute times for different distances. But transporter use is...

Who and what do you want to become starship names?

Right on. Just once in a while, sure, throw in a U.S.S. Zhikaa and U.S.S. Thyoi. In a small way, it would open up the ST universe, hinting at the legends of who/what Thyoi was. There is a small example of this in TNG with the U.S.S. Gorkon. We don't have any knowledge or history of Gorkon (in...

Who and what do you want to become starship names?

Why not some names we know nothing about, names we've never heard? There's more to Star Trek history than just what we know now. I have to think there will be plenty of history in the next 200-300 years before we get to Star Trek time. They should have legendary people and places and things in...

I'm looking for examples of Warp Factors less than 1

Do Warp Factors less than one follow the same formula? Common formula for Warp Factors cubed times lightspeed (i.e. Warp Factor 3 equals 3x3x3 times lightspeed. Warp Factor 3 equals 27 times lightspeed). Would Warp Factor .5 equal .5x.5x.5 times lightspeed? Warp Factor .5 equals .125 times...

    “The Galileo Seven”—why those seven?

I once read someone's theory (might have been on this board) that some starship personnel need to have X number of hours on landing party/away team duty to maintain status. Perhaps some duty requirement got McCoy and Scott aboard, nothing specific about them or this mission.

Let's Play, Give Star Trek Captain some RPG stats

FASA was a game company that produced a Star Trek RPG game in the 80s (so TOS and first year TNG only). They provided actual game stats for characters (based on 0-100). They also had species modifiers (e.g. Vulcans get more points for strength and intellect). I found some of the old manuals and...

Let's Play, Give Star Trek Captain some RPG stats

The FASA RPG had real game stats for TOS and TNG characters. I should dig up my PDFs and see how their stats measure up here...
