I see people still trying to judge a 1966 line of dialog by 2025 standards. In 1966, "temporarily at least, I am still your superior officer" was a joke about wives casting off the submissive, demure guise used to "catch" their man, and becoming "the boss" of the house once they were married.

Well, figuratively speaking. Maybe once or twice. And a few comical stumbles. Seriously beautiful woman, she was. Never figured out how to pronounce her name, tho, and was too embarrassed to ask.

I recall David Weber rewriting one of his first books, Path of the Fury (1992), because 432 pages wasn't long enough, and was way too entertaining, and retitled it In Fury Born (2006), because 864 pages with lots more standing around and talking seemed like a good idea to him. I... disagree.
