I actually really love how Strange New Worlds answered the "accurate canonical state of affairs" for the early 21st century. It made for both a brilliant episode, and a great way to explain how we can still have present day adventures in "our" 21st century such as in "Lost to Eternity".
If there were references to ENT or any of the more modern series, they were subtle enough I missed them. It’s very much a TOS book and requires nothing else to enjoy it.
What do you mean by modern lore? It’s a TOS novel, so it really only has connection to the original series and films, III a little bit and IV in particular. It’s consistent with how Savik has been written in other novels, but those aren’t really modern. You won’t have needed to read anything...
Really, the technology just isn't there yet. If Paramount thought they could upscale these shows for cheap and have it work, they would do it, but AI upscaling of live action is very hit or miss and requires a huge amount of human intervention and tweaking when being used with other methods to...
Just finished the book. Much like The Captain's Oath I didn't think I would like the storytelling spread across three different points of time, and just like The Captain's Oath I was completely sucked into this book and really enjoyed it.
In particular, I really enjoyed the podcaster story line...
I'm surprised to see people calling for one of the main cast members death. We've already had that, plenty of times, it's nice to see a happy ending. I agree Picard Season 3 wasn't the best Star Trek of the new era (SNW is pretty great) but I really loved it. I really do think it was a proper...
Loved it. So hard to believe this season came from the same series as season 2. This was a great episode to go out on, and I'm so glad they didn't try to kill anyone off. Just great.
I'll do you one better: has anyone here ever met anyone over the age of say 16 who had never heard of Hitler? All these comments about how people on the street don't know anything, but I've honest never met an adult person in my life who didn't at least have a vague idea of who Hitler was...
Episodic can be fun, but serialized can be more rewarding, especially with modern viewing habits. It's a big part of the reason DS9 has the fanbase it does now, but outside of Star Trek its the main reason so much of television has moved the direction it has.
Star Trek would benefit from the...
I watched it. Not sure I like the direction they are taking Q, you could see the Juradi/Borg Queen thing coming a mile away. Hoping the next episode is better.
Only the premiere episode, so a lot of setup. I really enjoyed it for what it was, but gave it an 8/10. If the whole season continues like this I expect I'll love it, but it's hard to judge from this episode which was heavy on exposition. I did love seeing "Captain Rios" and John de Lancie was...
Yeah, this was one of Roddenberry's shifting stances. The game mostly took it's inspiration from Balance of Terror which I'm guessing he later wasn't a fan of but approved of back in the 60s. Steve Cole, who created the game, based it on naval combat games of the time as that episode was...
Since this thread was already revived from the grave, I figured I would respond to some of the misconceptions here since no one else has.
Star Fleet Battles is still known as a wargame, a different genre though one very closely related to RPGs. There is a Prime Directive RPG by the publisher...
I think a combination of these complaints about it being dark, and all the complaints about cursing, just keep reminding me of the post you made where you talked about Star Trek starting out as a liberal hippie in the 60s that grew up into a conservative yuppie in the 80s.
I see a lot of anger...
