JJ Abrams career is not a reason to rewrite the narrative of Star Trek 2009.

I still think Into Darkness was a better Trek movie than many fans gave it credit for, and let's face it, TROS was the best we were ever going to get given the behind the scenes chaos at Lucasfilm.

Does anyone think Star Trek Legacy will ever happen?

As someone who has a much more positive view of the Star Wars sequels than most... yeah, Adam Driver was doing a lot of the heavy lifting there.

JJ Abrams career is not a reason to rewrite the narrative of Star Trek 2009.

That doesn't really make sense. As I understand it, the idea of a reboot with a younger cast had been around for a while already. The alternate timeline was mostly so that the canon rivet-counters wouldn't immediately reject it.

JJ Abrams career is not a reason to rewrite the narrative of Star Trek 2009.

For what it's worth, The Force Awakens was very well received upon release. It wasn't until the later movies that opinions seemed to change.

So, I bought the 4K Steelbook of Star Trek (XI) from HMV...

I haven't had much desire to revisit it recently myself but it did accomplish what it set out to do; it got a lot of people interested in Star Trek again, myself included, and it proved to the powers that be that it was still viable.

    Your postmortem thoughts on DISCO

Yeah, though to me a lot of the unevenness felt intentional, like it was an experimental show feeling things out to see what worked and what didn't.

Have you ever given up on a Trek series? If so, what was the last straw for you?

Voyager. It just didn't click with me. One day I'll give it a fair shot.
  9. ScottJ85

Which series would you want next?

A straight up TOS reboot with the SNW cast. Failing that, Year One.

    Your postmortem thoughts on DISCO

Overall I liked it but I found it to be pretty inconsistent. It feels like an experimental series, trying to figure out the right approach for modern day Star Trek. When it was good it was up there with the best of any of the other series. When it was bad it was at least bad in an interesting...

Spoilers Strange New Worlds jumps the shark... ("Subspace Rhapsody")

I thought it was alright. Not sure I'd watch it again but I enjoyed it well enough at the time.

    Spoilers General Disco Chat Thread

I didn't either, but given the way they'd written themselves into a corner by S4, they could have done a LOT worse.

    New Scotty

I don't know, I thought him resigning over a matter of principle and immediately heading straight for the pub was totally in character for him.

I don't like this news about SNW season 3 from Screen Rant

Yeah, the way some people talk about it you'd think Alex Kurtzman personally held their eyes open and forced them to watch. And I really don't understand how someone can act like Star Trek having a progressive message is somehow a new thing, unless they've only seen TOS and took it entirely at...

I don't like this news about SNW season 3 from Screen Rant

Really? "Everyone lives in a beautiful utopia but there's a horrible secret" is a trope as old as Star Trek itself.

Poll Do you intend to watch SECTION 31?

That's my point really, if you chase away everyone but the hardcore fans, you'll eventually chase those away too.
  17. ScottJ85

Poll Do you intend to watch SECTION 31?

Keep making stuff only the fans want and scratch your balls wondering why you're putting so much effort into chasing the approval of a rapidly shrinking base of hardcore obsessives. I keep hearing that. I still plan to watch it anyway, I've enjoyed most new Trek and I think I can forgive them...

What has the new series done to ruin Star Trek this time?

They ruined Star Trek by making the first pilot rather than letting it remain a figment of Gene Roddenberry's imagination forever.

What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

It's that phenomenon where the perceived audience reaction and the actual audience reaction are two totally separate things.
  20. ScottJ85

What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

I definitely think it was a better Trek movie than many fans gave it credit for.
