    Shuttles In Flight

Thanks for the response. I agree the first one is probably stronger. I rendered the second one first & and changed it for pretty much all the reasons you you mentioned. (BTW, the red stripes you mention are a remnant from the rectangle on the B/C deck above.) The thing I do like about the...

    Shuttles In Flight

I don't post too much any more, but here's a couple of renderings I did the other day that I thought you'd enjoy. The models were built in SolidWorks & rendered in Keyshot. As always, any comments are welcome!

Thanks! As always, if anyone has any questions or comments, just let me know.

    That's A Big Ship!

Hello All, It's been a couple of years since I posted anything here & I thought I'd share something I worked on last Summer. This was built in Solidworks & rendered in Keyshot. Thanks for looking!

    New Model of 1701

Wow, thanks everyone. I haven't really been visiting this forum much lately & it was nice to see an old thread resurrected! I did, more or less, finish up the Enterprise some time ago. Afterwards, I moved on to the Klingon Battlecruiser in an effort to teach myself Pro/Engineer (Creo...

    New Model of 1701

Happy Halloween! (And, another update.) I started weathering her & I've been working on the Bussard Collectors. I also noticed the registry & grid lines on the upper saucer are a little out-of-whack. I need to take another look at those graphics. Thoughts?

    New Model of 1701

Update time. I made some pretty good progress this week. I have most of the graphics on (but none of the weathering, yet). And, I started tackling the Bussard Collectors -- or, "power domes" if you're old school. :) Having done this before in Alias, I know it's a tricky thing to make...

    New Model of 1701

Another update. I'm starting to add all the markings, textures, etc. Nothing is really 'final' here, but once I get all the parts together then I'll start tweaking them. BTW, most of these marking are from the Photoshop/Illustrator files I made years ago when I built this in Alias. My...

    New Model of 1701

That's awesome, thanks. I also found that Trekcore has HD screen caps, AND some episodes have the CG Enterprise shots next to HD versions of the old model shots. So, basically, they're the same old shots we've all seen, just higher res & (somewhat) more detail.

    New Model of 1701

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. No updates today, but I corrected a few things that were bugging me (mostly window sizes & location on the saucer). I thought I would mention, though, what I'm aiming for from an 'accuracy' standpoint. My target is the production version of the 11-footer...

    New Model of 1701

Update time! I believe I have all the geometry done & I'm starting to break out the different shaders. None of the colors are final at this point, but this is sort of the way the work flow between SolidWorks & Keyshot works. BTW, I don't have any texture maps at this point (bump or...

    New Model of 1701

Update! Got the struts in, plus started adding all the windows. BTW, all comments, questions & nitpicks are welcome.

Unfortunately, we can't use Rhino for work. Our clients usually require Pre/E or SolidWorks. The few Rhino files we're received over the years have been pretty poor quality -- usually to the point of having to be rebuilt.

    New Model of 1701

Thanks! You're right: SolidWorks is a constant struggle for us. Unfortunately, it's what our industry calls for right now. I much prefer surface modeling in Alias. However, SolidWorks is parametric, so the models we make are much more robust. And, if you're patient (or stubborn) you can get...

    New Model of 1701

Hey All, I started teaching myself SolidWorks this year & back in the Spring I posted renders of the Galileo I built. More recently, I started building a model of the original E & I thought I'd share my progress. The model is built from a combination of Casimiro's plans & pictures...

    Shuttlecraft Renderings

Thanks everyone! Yeah, what B.J. said. SolidWorks is a solid modeler (hence the name). In my profession (industrial design) it & Pro/E are pretty much the standard for generating CAD geometry suitable for manufacturing. Generally speaking, when I build models (kits or CAD), my goal is...

    Shuttlecraft Renderings

Holy Cow, it's been forever since I posted here! I just wanted to share something I've been working on for fun. I decided to teach myself SolidWorks not too long ago, and after exhausting all the tutorials, I picked something a little more fun. :) This is obviously the Galileo Shuttlecraft...

    Who has done a TOS E cross-section?

For what it's worth, here's one I did 20+ years ago in old fashioned pen-and-ink. This was obviously pre-interweb and my resources at the time included things like "Photonovels" and "watching TV." :) The original is about 3 feet long and was obviously inspired by David Kimble's fantastic work.

    MadUniverse Galaxy Class

Wow, blast from the past! Those are actually my sketches. Great job bringing them to life! I obviously didn't spend too much time on them, but IIRC, my inspiration (if you can call it that) was my disappointment with Nemesis. I thought that movie would have been much better if the whole...
