Spoilers The Handmaid's Tale (TV series)

Who had Serena and Naomi as the final boss level on heir bingo cards? Will Serena, Naomi, Hannah, and Charlotte all be at the same location? You know, where they evacuated the wives to keep them safe. Ah Damar, I mean Lawrence, such a fitting end. The only end he could have, thematically. Bye...

    How big was the Enterprise?

Thank you! We see from the diagram the intended size comparison. The length is about the same when you include the nacelles. The volume is obviously way different, but part of that is because an aircraft carrier has a big hollow portion where planes are kept. Plus a carrier has way more crew.

What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

Yes. Linguistics. The Romulan word was translated as "ale". Therefore the translator felt that was the equivalent word in English. ale. noun. ˈā(ə)l. : an alcoholic drink made from malt and flavored with hops that is usually more bitter than beer.May 11, 2025 Of course, that definition does...

    You Are The Captain #11

I don't know if I would call jamming technology a weapon, but yeah. It can be used for offense.

    You Are The Captain #11

Jedi Marso's plan sounds like the best situation. Honestly explain to the Hrechonet that this is the unfortunate result of an act of nature. The alien lifeforms are no different than a flock of birds showing up on radar. We will even help the Hrechonet a method of counteracting this affect...

What is your personal head canon?

That's because Riker is a diplomat, not a soldier. Or is that scientist? At any rate, he should leave the fighting to the mil.... those trained in combat and whose mission it is to defend the Federation against aggressors.

What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

Yeah, there are some good dark stouts. I really don't like beer unless it's a dark beer.

What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

New. Their own thing. No one from TOS involved. Cool. Now just set it somewhere other than the TOS era, without using any TOS characters, nor connect to any TOS episode. Because retreading what has come before really is the opposite of new and own thing.

Writing propaganda for non - totalitarian governments.

Propaganda isn't limited to totalitarian governments. What is propaganda? In this context, it is the use of biased or misleading information to manipulate the way people think and act. Some equate propaganda with “lies, distortion, deceit, manipulation, mind control, [and] psychological...

Spoilers The Handmaid's Tale (TV series)

You keep bringing this up. There are plans to connect Canada by rail. While it's not happened yet in our timeline, people will keep planning on this until it happens. It's not much of a stretch to imagine this would happen in the Handmaid timeline since Alaska was still the US and Gilead was...

United Federation of Planets, the first 250 years

As a follow up to a previous discussion, how did the United Federation of Planets grow and change from it's founding to the end of the Picard era? We've had interesting comments and thoughts on a lot of parts of this, but how does all this fit together? For example (but not an exclusive list)...

    Captains

True. I took it as "best" then thought otherwise. Best might be more subjective than favorite, but I'm not sure. They are all written as heroes, so I don't know how to rate one better than the other professionally. Kirk is my favorite. Janeway might be next and rate above Picard. I'm...

    How big was the Enterprise?

Does anyone have the illustration from "The Making of Star Trek" that shows the outline of the Enterprise superimposed over the silhouette of an aircraft carrier?

    Captains

Favorite may not necessarily be best. Sometimes the flaws are what attract us to the character.

    General Trek Questions and Observations

It's likely the Dominion could have won the war or at least had the Federation on the ropes before Section 31 could implement the bio-weapon.

Why did the Federation tolerate some elements of Vulcan culture that actually may cause great harm to individuals?

Not wanting to turn this into yet another military/not military topic, but there isn't any military depicted. I can see your point but, again, like I tried to mention previously, Journey to Babel could easily be referring to local planetary militias. The United States has been a unified...

Why did the Federation tolerate some elements of Vulcan culture that actually may cause great harm to individuals?

Before any civil war can't it be said the nation shares a common military?

Why did the Federation tolerate some elements of Vulcan culture that actually may cause great harm to individuals?

Along the lines of this thought and going back to the subject of arranged marriage, was it ever stated that was a Vulcan norm? Maybe this is unique to some philosophy that Sarek's family follows? Maybe this is not some planet wide one size fits all tradition.
  20. Shawnster

Why did the Federation tolerate some elements of Vulcan culture that actually may cause great harm to individuals?

In TOS the Federation was more like the UN or EU - a union of independent nation-states with a common military and currency. Each political entity sent ambassadors to other Federation member worlds. In TNG the Federation is more like the United States. One dominant federal government...
