    Unseen TOS....

Mote is one of my all time favorite SF novels. And the Leif is the basis of MacArthur. The only adjustment is that it would have a more circular cross section. Less flat and whisky bottle shaped. The hangar doors would bulge more so they would present a "flat" surface under spin gravity.

    Unseen TOS....

Looks like I misinterpreted a SketchUp comment about starting over after losing your Mac. I don't intend to throw shade on your results, which are excellent! RE: MoI -- The current version runs perfectly on my work M1 Studio, and on my home M2 Mac Mini. M.

The new UESPA Series of books thread

I was one of those kids frequenting the book stalls back in the 70s. Your posts really "take me back." Keep it up! M.

    Unseen TOS....

Since AMT asked MJ to design another space ship model to follow up on the amazing success of the original Enterprise; I think in AMT's mind, it was a Trek model. In my personal, juvenile head-canon, back in the 70s, it was a Gorn ship... So glad to see you "back in the saddle," Warped9! I...

    Celebrating Leonard Nimoy…

Thanks for the link. I watched it the other night and it was very interesting -- and moving. M.

    MGagen’s New TOS-E Project

Use of a Tractor beam as you suggest would have the same issue as an orbit between two closely matched masses. K7 wouldn't swing the E around herself; they would both "orbit" a barycenter about a quarter of the way along a line from K7 to the Enterprise. A do-see-do, as it were. Now add another...

    Butter Trek!

It...came from the margarine factory...just...like this. Untouched by...human hands. Promise!

Always happy to see new Shaw posts!

    MGagen’s New TOS-E Project

Update time again. Here's a shuttle launch from an exterior view. In order to pull this off, I had to append my hangar interior into my exterior Enterprise model. Fortunately, Blender makes that pretty easy.

Hey, I never noticed that before....

For a gal living on an ice planet, Zarabeth sure liked to dress casual. Not that I'm complaining.

    MGagen’s New TOS-E Project

Time for a new update. I pulled an old model of the S.S. Botany Bay that I created in my program of many years, Strata 3D. It is a fairly easy thing to export from Strata as an FBX and import into Blender. From there it is a bit of work to revise the texturing. My version is based on the...

    MGagen’s New TOS-E Project

Some folks like their Enterprises to be "happy to see them." I do not. There is visual evidence that it could be either extended or retracted. I have depicted it as retracted. M.

    MGagen’s New TOS-E Project

I noticed that I had neglected to properly texture a few details on the bottom of the primary hull. I just updated the Fire Phasers render, above, with a new render.

    MGagen’s New TOS-E Project

I, too, view the area around the lower sensor as the phaser turret. It's the only feature that makes sense to me, other than some kind of pop open hatches. Since we've never seen any evidence of this in TOS, I haven't added that detail. While I am not opposed to adding extra detail, my...

The new UESPA Series of books thread

I love your series of faux book covers. They remind me of all of the great 70s SF paperbacks of years long gone. In this case, it awakens nostalgia for something that never was... M.

    MGagen’s New TOS-E Project

I wasn't going to address this, but I fall squarely in the "not rotating/not orbiting" camp. In the original episode, we see apparent rotation of the station and apparent movement of the ship; but, when seen from the station office, neither the stars nor the Enterprise are moving. There is a...

    MGagen’s New TOS-E Project

I agree about the angles. That always annoyed me, even as a kid. Unless they were aiming at two widely spaced objects. I will start by making the beams parallel, hoping that the perspective of the shot might give us the slight divergence of angles. We'll see how it turns out. I will be going...

    MGagen’s New TOS-E Project

I am planning to attempt the iconic Phaser Firing image. Just need to learn how to depict glowing plasma beams in Blender. The interesting part will be the bounce lighting effects and reflections that should result from beams actually being present, not optically printed in. M.

Let Me Count the Ways... I Watched Star Trek

1, 2, 3, 4, 7a, 8, 9, 10, 11, 14a-b, 15, 16, & 20. One of my favorite memories was watching the 70s reruns on central Indiana's Channel 13. Every night after the last news story, the Eyewitness News team would "beam aboard the Enterprise." They would start the episode on the blue screen behind...
