On one of the preview pages, Jake says that the Borg killed his mother when he was two years old. He was closer to 11. This is way off and suggests the Battle at Wolf 359 was about a dozen years before Sisko took command of DS9.
I want to point out that the D.C. Fontana novel was called Vulcan's Glory where we were first introduced to Number One as an Illyrian. I know you didn't mean Vulcan's Heart.

@Kertrats47 and I recorded our review for Positively Trek (coming out tomorrow). We both loved the scene between Uhura and her family that I want a follow-up book about her growing relationship with them.
I love to read Star Trek novels whether they are inter-connected or not. I had often wondered when we would see the day when the Trek litverse continuity would end. Now we know, but now we get more screen Star Trek along with novels inter-connected to that new continuity. Works for me!
