"A joke is a story with a humorous climax."

Spoilers Starfleet Academy General Discussion Thread

Well, that‘s why I was telling you, because I knew you weren‘t aware of it. It‘s less of a “hypersensitivity” and more common decency. “Let‘s not judge someone negatively because of their body” is not some super woke or out there concept, I should think. I trust you‘ll manage. I‘m not sure what...

Bold move, saying "it's a joke" after the backlash. Jokes usually don't need that much explaining.

...show produced as entertainment for a 20th century audience and not a real attempt to completely depict actual day to day life in a time 350 years in the future. (And jokes should contain actual humor to be considered actual jokes. It's not "Hypersensitivity' to call out blatantly rude comments.)

Ok, well then, I was unaware of the hypersensitivity, but I'll stand by my joke, that's what it was a joke, from a place of experience and knowledge. One would think that those conditions I mentioned would have been solved by the 32nd century, but apparently not, Suffice to say, do not expect...

We get it. Some Trek actors aren't athletic or thin. Enough with the fat jokes. Down that road lay trouble.

Poll What’s Your Favorite SNW Season (So Far)?

That's OK. I didn't care for Those Old Scientists. And I usually love the SNW comedic episodes. In the entire run of SNW to date, the only SNW comedy episode I dislike more is S3's A Space Adventure Hour. I loved SNW S2 Subspace Rhapsody and I'm normally not a fan when a non music series does...

Poll What’s Your Favorite SNW Season (So Far)?

...its third season. Season 1 features great standalone stories, solid overarching subplots, and one of my favourite Trek stories in the excellently sad "Lift Us Where Suffering Cannot Reach". *No joke, I watched "Subspace Rhapsody" twice and I was baffled as to why it has a devoted fan following.

    Do you speak future?

I'm 64, and I still use "groovy". These days, though, I tend to use "shiny" more.

...impact much. Programmable matter isn't really that much different from a replicator. Instantaneous transport by combadge is only used for jokes, and forgotten when inconvenient. Detached nacelles don't mean shit. The ship gets a refit mid Season 3, and never has an issue going toe-to-toe...

Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley developing Star Trek reboot for Paramount

Little bit of a joke. But I do think, while not exactly subtle they did use fan service in a effective way. Except bringing back The Borg and how they used Moriarty. That would be example of bad fan service. Also the fan service has to be looked into the context that season was basically a...

That has to be a joke, Or at least, you posted it specifically because you knew it would generate this sort of reaction from someone.

Rik Mayall was the greatest of all time.. Didn't just get his cock set on fire for the joke, but did a stunt fall down the stairs and through a door while on fire.

    Do you speak future?

Groovy aged very well! Bruce Campbell for one is helping there. Paris says "pretty groovy" in Future's End, and in the 90s it was considered retro is the joke, but watching it in 2025 I think actually it's timeless!
