Spoilers STAR TREK: SECTION 31 - Grading & Discussion

I just rewatched 31 for the first time in about 9 months. It certainly wears well. I continue to like the spirit of it and is a fun movie. I'm not changing my rating at all. I think fans forget Gene Roddenberry promoted Trek as an entertaining action-adventure. My biggest takeaway now as it...

    Spoilers General Disco Chat Thread

The Klingons in season 1 were a Valiant effort to freshen up a race that became boring. They added history from literature, deepened the culture, gave us technological rationalization and made them more alien, as well as giving their language center stage. Most of the history I liked, but...

Spoilers A Complete (I Hope) DISCO Rewatch

This episode is a solid one but not remarkable. It's a good for some Burnham development and it looks pretty spectacular. Overall, it feels like more of an aside, though not filler.

Spoilers Stranger Things - Season 5

I always knew it would resurface this way. I never bought for a second they'd written that off completely, despite the public outcry. I just kept yelling in the back of my head "But there's another one out there!" LOL I agree they've shoehorned in quite a lot of exposition & contrivance, but...

    Starfleet Academy Official Trailer

Only the terminally-online would think that online outlets represent the entirety of fandom, or that ratings by online critics/audiences are a viable metric for indicating what everyone thinks. Everything you're listing there is feeding into your confirmation bias.

A Gift from Alpha Point and the U.S.S. Solare - Snowflakes

Hexagonal Plate Snowflakes and Blackhole Geometries. If a water drop is able to create an infinite number of snowflakes based on the same water drop being converted to a snowflake, then back to water and then to a snowflake, such as aboard the ISS where there is less gravity, and we are able to...

What would you change in Star Trek: Enterprise to make it better?

Don’t call the ship Enterprise if its set a hundred years before TOS. Call it the Dauntless or the Yorktown. Or transition from one hero starship to another over the series. If the show’s supposed to be about the first Enterprise, then it should have been about the adventures of Robert April...

    Why Didn't Harry Get Promoted?

I'm not absolutely sure of that. If we look at season 3, it seems like Kes were about to have a more prominent role in the series. We had episodes like Warlord with focus on Kes, we had The Swarm where Kes played an important role when it came to saving The Doctor, we had Before And After...

    Your latest purchases, cont.

It costs in Australia - $600 - which equates to US$392. I also got two extra gifts, which I'll give out as Christmas presents for nieces and nephews. I haven't brought any lego in a long time. I just felt like spoiling myself when I saw that it was happening a few months ago.

TNGTM pg 55 Warp Factor vs Power chart equation

On a slightly different but related tangent: The Ironic thing is that Geordi stated in New Ground stated that the 'Power Efficiency' of the energy of the Soliton Wave converted to the Soliton Wave Rider to go to warp was 98% That statement to me implies that however the Enterprise is...

TNGTM pg 55 Warp Factor vs Power chart equation

Ok so I’ve owed a calculation of fuel consumption for a Galaxy class starship to this thread for a little while. It is stated that the Galaxy’s 3000 cubic meter (m3) is enough for a normal mission period of three years. It is elsewhere in the book stated that the ship’s propulsion system is...

Nice! I hope you enjoy it. I’m not really that much into Lego myself, but even if I was, the almost C$500 price tag would rule it out for me anyway. But I do have to give props to the fine people at Lego: they set the Canadian price lower than the straight exchange from USD ($490 vs. $561 if...

Your honest opinion on the Berman era

The Berman era is what got me into Trek, but I tend to reflect with mixed feelings. TNG was my bread and butter, and I loved DS9, but DS9 had less of a Berman footprint than the other shows. For me, VOY started out strong but got weaker as it went along, and I never warmed to ENT.

    TOS Turbolift

That may well have played into the Corbomite shirtless walk; Roddenberry seemed to think in those terms. But I suspect the director wanted to convey the sense of "gritty intimacy" that you see in the better WW II sea battle movies, where the men are raw and personal, and a "you are there"...

Strange New Worlds' showrunners advise fans to write to Skydance and Paramount if they're interested in a "Year One" Kirk sequel series

For that matter, it seems everyone and their dog claims the appeal of TNG is its optimism and focus on science and exploration and that it wasn't "pew-pew action." Yet, topping the lists of fan favorite TNG episodes are Yesterday's Enterprise and TBOBW. The former set in an alternate timeline...

Strange New Worlds' showrunners advise fans to write to Skydance and Paramount if they're interested in a "Year One" Kirk sequel series

Quite so. I should add that while I am critical of "Balance of Terror" and critical I think for good reason, I still very much enjoy the episode. Having something intellectual to offer is not a criterion for being a good episode. Even if I don't rate it as highly as others do, that doesn't make...
