Land of the Lost Superbowl Spot

I honestly can't decide if this looks horrible or brilliant. However, Will Farrell's involvement has it seriously leaning into the "horrible" camp.

I loved the original Land of the Lost when I was a kid, and it´s sense of mystery and mythology. If there is any show that I think would benefit from a long form, serialized format ala "Lost" or a "gritty and dark" reimagining, its Land of the Lost.

I would have much rather seen this reworked into an action/adventure/sci-fi movie than what we're gonna get with Ferrell as the lead.

Please, please let the Jim Carey 6,000,000 Dollar Man project die before it sees the light of day.

The witch mountain thing... the original left much to be desired, even when I watched it as a kid. At least Bedknobs and Broomsticks had evil Nazis for villians. Nazis. I hate those guys!

Read somewhere that the woman who was the little girl in the original Witch Mountain 30 years ago will appear in the new movie.

I don't remember ever seeing Land of the Lost. An this Super Bowl ad doesn't make me want to see it either... Maybe someday on dvd

I don't think you'd appreciate it now. But, but back in the 70's it was cutting-edge Saturday morning kids TV. David Gerrold, Larry Niven, Walter Koenig, DC Fontana (I think; not sure) all wrote episodes...

There was nothing campy or silly about it.

Today, the production values do not hold up -- and didn't even back then -- but one could appreciate what they were trying to do: sci-fi/adventure for kids.

The characters, premise and trappings could have all been kept -- and with a good writer/director and a good story it could have made a great film!

However -- this movie looks like a travesty!

Amen to that! I don't understand why they keep turning 70's properties into comedies. Pretty stupid if you ask me!

This is why I hope nobody ever tries to remake Space:1999! They'd probably try to turn that into a comedy also!

To quote Napoleon Dynamite: "G-yah!! IDIOTS!!!"

But wasn't the second year already a comedy? ;)

Methinks ye have a point!

The second season was kind of lame.

Especially in those episodes where something horrible happens and the last scene is about Tony's inability to make beer and everyone laughs. The second season end moments are worst than the forced laughter at the end of "The Galileo Seven."

As someone who has zero attachment to the original Land of the Lost, I say this movie has potential.

Everyone I was watching it with Superbowl Sunday was laughing at his opening zinger about taxpayer dollars.

Plus, those green alien dudes look like they have great comedic possibilities.

Well, we can thank the "wonderful" Freddie Freiberger (May he R.I.P.) for all that lame humor.

I'm more of a fan of the first season...everything about it was better than Year 2...

Like others in this thread, I was a fan of the show as a kid, and like those others I am also disappointed that they are turning a smart, serious adventure show into a silly comedy.

Having said that, I will reluctantly admit that as comedies go, this looks like a fun one. Besides, anything with dinosaurs in it is going to have at least some entertainment value to me. That's why Jurassic Park 3 is tolerable.

Nevertheless, if I do end up watching this one, I am likely going to spend much of the film sadly thinking of the smart, serious adventure movie that might have been.

As to the kiss, my guess is they've combined the 70s LOTL with the awful 90s version where they added a female Tarzana type character. If she's in it, I'm betting that's who he's smooching.

The smart, serious adventure was often belied by the clay dinosaurs, non-existant budget and bad acting. I'm hoping this will be like Ghostbusters or Galaxy Quest and have some decent adventure mixed with the humor, it has potential for that so far from what little was glimpsed in the Superbowl spot, I guess we'll see as more comes out.
