I think that's overstating it. Close Encounters was in production overlapping Star Wars and utilized similar techniques. Motion control passes with repeatable camera moves were coming, Star Wars or not.the special EFX in way over half the films made in the US wouldn't be without Star Wars and that includes all the Trek shows and films this board was created to talk about.
