Playmates Toys

If they do a 3rd ship I would expect it to be one of the ships they’ve done previously.

So that would leave the Klingon Vor’Cha and Bird of Prey, Romulan Warbird and Bird of Prey, Borg Cube, Borg Sphere, Enterprise D with battle damage, Enterprise B, Excelsior (Enterprise B sculpt with different decals) Defiant, Voyager, DS9 Station, Enterprise E, the JJ-Prise and the Phoenix.

It was strange they never did the 1701 refit among others. I know there was a Cardassian ship planned but never produced.

Both the 1701 and 1701-D appear to be entirely new molds, so I don't think they'd necessarily repeat themselves, presumably they did those two first since they're the two most popular ships in the franchise. Based on that, I'd think they'd do either the refit or Voyager - but I have the feeling the 1701-D and communicator will be the final releases.

Hmm, bad news on the figures, better for the ships and role play.

Not surprised by this. I have never been really been into figures. Except when Diamond Select released theirs years ago. They were some of the best TOS figures I ever saw. When I saw playmates on the shelves I had a feeling they would sell badly. I don't buy much anymore but I did pick up the Enterprise to go with my DST and Tomy...

Wasn’t looking for it but doing my grocery shopping at Target and they had the E-D.

39.99. for now I passed. If they had put any effort in to detail the head portion of the battle section I might have sprung for it.

No sign of the TOS communicator.

I was excited to first hear of Playmates getting the Trek license again, but then was disappointed with the offerings that weren't quite the retro figures of the 90's I liked, but not up to snuff with modern sculpts that collectors now enjoy.
I would have totally been on board for figures similar to the Star Wars Black series in a larger scale.
We'll see what the future holds.

Sad news about the figures, I was kinda hoping to get into them now as I couldn't afford them as a kid in the 90s.
Same here, but I found quite a few at flea markets in the last few years!

The deflector dish does light up as does the bridge module. I'm thinking it was a last minute addition since the box doesn't say anything about a light-up deflector.
Whaaaat? Picz plz!
Now I gotta buy it...

A common complaint I hear from toy collectors is that they don't want to get started buying a new set of figures (e.g. the first/only wave from Playmates) if they don't know that they'll be able to finish the set. My thought is that Playmates should try selling box sets that contain whole crews. They did it once with TOS many years ago. Maybe see if it'll work now.

I always thought figures always got more love than ships--I'm glad that's flipped.
It's probably because Playmates didn't release any figures in Wave 1 that were absolute must haves. Aside from the increasingly exclusive group of serious collectors, there wasn't much to entice anyone else, IMO.

Playmates may have thought since TWOK is still quite highly revered, having Kirk, Spock, and Khan from that film in Wave 1 would have been a sure-fire hit. Well...

Seems like very tasty crow, if so.

It tastes like really gourmet chicken!

It's funny that it comes with the later delta design for the stand, guess that makes it the Generations version.

You noticed that too, huh? I think it's kinda cool, especially since in my head canon this isn't actually the Enterprise-D, it's my Dominion War-era starship, the USS Allegheny NCC-71965 (named after my old childhood home address). Ignore the decals, they are wrong. :p
