Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

I'm curious why the main nav deflector on this and all variants of the TOS Enterprise are an orangey-red. I was always under the impression that it was a metallic copper/bronze color. Or was that just ancient Smithsonian misinformation from an incorrect part added onto the model post-donation? Always looked metallic on the screen to me, too.

Curry and 22nd century Ferengi ship arrived today. I was actually really surprised by how much I like the Ferengi ship. The detail on the underside is really good although there is a circular disc (I’m not sure what it is for yet as I haven’t read the magazine) that looks a little flimsy.

But I'm extremely unhappy with the color choice. They chose to paint her the same way as the TOS connie, greenish-grey color, and orange nacelle bulbs. That's just...wrong. I read the final model in the series might have looked like that. But considering the ONLY official images we ever had of this model were paintings, with the same color scheme as the TOS-movie Enterprise (white hull, with blue nacelle caps), THAT would be the official and "correct" color scheme of the ship IMO.

FWIW, the Phase II comic “The Fear” in the Star Trek: Waypoint series also goes for the Eaglemoss/TOS exterior color scheme.

Weird, I don't see any Pennsylvania references in the tracking information any more.
I think I finally figured it out. They use a company called Newgistics for the shipments. They are a large shipping consolidator used by lots and lots of companies. Apparently they have a massive warehouse in Fishers, IN. The actual orders still generate with Eaglemoss US Partner in PA. Orders in the Western US must go straight from Fishers while those in the Eastern US still mail from Fishers but have to stop in NJ first. They probably use a completely different company for phones/email customer service.

The Curry's out today in UK shops. Braved the snow and picked it up this morning, love it! One of those ships that it's so cool to have a model of, this collection and its publisher may have a lot of problems but you'd never get a model of this ship anywhere else. Think I'll put it next to the USS Centaur, awaiting to be joined the by the Yeager-class and USS Elkins at some point :D

You should have them all around DS9 with the Defiant facing off against the Dominion and Cardassian ships. :)

In other news, came home to the Probert Enterprise C first time I’ve had a good look at it & agree with others that it would’ve made for a good transition between the Excelsior and Galaxy.

I believe it was supposed to be closer to the TOS color scheme. It wasn't the full-blown refit the movie version is.

Yes, I don't believe the final Phase II filming miniature was ever painted. I've seen photos of it under construction, but I suspect it was scrapped in favor of the full Trumble refit before it was anywhere near finished. So we don't know what color it was really supposed to be - other than the fact it was going to have a metric ass-ton of red pin-striping. :D

Alright, so I got a response back regarding the XL's and Specials. Probably the most specific response I've ever received from them, surprisingly:
Thank you for your email. We are not notified what special is sent before it is due on the account and the selection depends on what is in stock at the time your special is due. You will receive the specials released as long as the account is active when you are due for them. You will receive the notifications via email for specials once generated by the account. The XL membership is sent on a frequency of every 8 weeks and one ship is sent. The next shipment will be sent 2/1 and the predicted issue will be the NX-01. Issue ST114 was bypassed because it is out of stock and will be sent once available. We apologize for the delay. The Discovery membership will start shipping by the end of January. You will receive shipment notifications with tracking once the item has shipped.

Sincerely,
J.B.

So, there it is, FWIW. I did send a follow up email asking if my account was still activated for all specials. I am unsure what magical criteria has to occur in order to get the specials, and nothing to address why the specials have been available for purchase for months in the online store before subscribers get them. I suspect that's simply one of their SOP revenue-generating business practices that they don't want made publicly known.

I'm afraid this is the most comprehensive information we're ever going to get on the subject for a while from them until there's another change in management.

Not sure if this has been asked before, but:

Am I the only one who wants an XL Defiant? That's worthy of a big model, right?
I think it's the next one in the series, it's certainly on the radar. Definitely one I'd be interested in.

I got the TOS-E and have thought about the D and Voyager, but haven't yet pulled the trigger. I'm not convinced they're really worth £50 each - I might just get the smaller equivalents.

I'm sitting on a $10 Eaglemoss gift card I won a while back and if what you say is true, I'm just gonna hang on to it until that XL Defiant comes out.

Oh most definitely! I'm also VERY much looking forward to the XL TMP refit, personally. It won't be as big as the Diamond Select one, but I do hope it will be more accurate - the Issue #2 version was shit, IMO. I just hope the new ones aren't just simply scaled-up versions of the smaller ones that came out years ago.

Almost the same with the regular subs now. #114 that they tell you is out of stock was put up for “preorder” on the website around Jan 1 well before any subscribers were due for it & is still listed that way. At $22.95 plus possibly a $6.95 shipping charge vs $19.95 for subscription & free shipping.

Yeah, if they do a definitive refit-E it'll be a day one purchase.

However, I'm not very impressed by their smaller versions - the A was an improvement over the TMP refit (which was shit), but still isn't one of Eaglemoss' better ships. All of the jumbos have just been upscaled from the smaller versions so I doubt the XL will be a new model.

XL Voyager that should have been here 2 weeks ago amazingly appeared today. The tracking info mysteriously updated last night finally and showed up today on my doorstep. I think it definitely benefits from the larger size & might be my favorite of the XL’s so far.

My wife also surprised me today by setting up an appointment for someone to come out & talk about building a custom display cabinet. :adore:

You have a wife who supports your collecting habits? I'd tell you to marry her if you hadn't done so already. Oh, screw it. Marry her again!

On my own (single) front, the glue on the Honshu held quite well and it now looks much better than it did originally.

On another note, I'm looking forward to the Bozeman, even if it is yet another Miranda variant. (The Lantree's kind of a long shot, but I wonder if they might eventually do the Antares). One thing that puzzles me is why the nacelles on the Reliant, Saratoga, and now the Bozeman are all blue. Whenever they used the physical Reliant model, the nacelles were always black. The glowing blue nacelles didn't come along until the CG era (i.e. "Sacrifice of Angels"). Did they really not catch that?

Oh sweet candy apple fuck... I got a response back from my request of confirmation that I'm still opted-in for specials:
Your account is opted in for the specials. The next one is scheduled to ship on or around 01/24/18. It is the USS Franklin.
The USS Franklin?!? How many months has that thing already been out? I actually gave up waiting for it and bought it last summer from the online store. Good Lord, yet another duplicate model I'm going to have to flip on eBay. At this rate I won't see the K-7 space station until June and the Ringship Enterprise by next Christmas!

I think it's because they used the DS9 CGI model as the basis. I agree though, the Reliant never had blue nacelles. The refit Enterprise did, bit only the interior sides and only at warp.

Have we ever seen a Miranda at warp? I can't think of one time.

My orders arrived today (yay), 15 days after I ordered them. I suppose that's not too bad really, with that e-mail I was expecting another weeks wait.

However, my XL Voyager is missing one of the blue clear plastic parts on one of the nacelles. Looks like it was never fitted properly as it's not anywhere in the box. Has anyone had experience here of getting replacements? Do you just e-mail them the issue and they send you another? Just wondered, never had to do it before
