For myself, there is no definitive Trek. I like my entertainment to have a consistent story-plot and characterizations. I like for it to have smooth editing. I like for the characters to act smart, not stupidly. Those are my simple requests. This last episode did not meet my requests.

PS If you do not like something, say, like Trekyards, and you raise a stink about it - why not explain why you do not like said program? I removed the video for "community harmony". I did not remove the video because I understood your reasons for disliking it.

I think in the case of those who strongly dislike it, the reason seems to boil down to it being different from their preferred version of Trek, whatever particular series that may be.

Guilty as charged. More accurately, it doesn't resemble the subjective amalgam of Trek that makes something feel "Trekky" to me after a lifetime of viewing.

For me, what Discovery is missing the most so far is the episodic and familial feel. It's focusing so much on a single character that it doesn't seem likely to ever develop the familiar ensemble structure. I can't see Discovery ever having a holodeck episode. Maybe that's for the best, but I'm of the opinion that Star Trek's traditional (relatively) low production values and high episode count were part of its charm. I hate to admit those days are over.

I'm still hoping I'll get into it. I have nothing against the form, the designs, the setting, any of it. I just want the writing to be better.

I think if the next episode is yet another > 5/10 I might give up and then binge watch it in one sitting once it's a few seasons in.

Surely there are better ways to spend to spend 24+ hours? There are probably two seasons of Voyager I haven't seen and I can honestly say I've no desire to. Life's too short to spend time on TV shows I don't enjoy.

Enterprise is one of my favourite series, mostly for some of the characters and stories on their own. I still find most of them far more likeable than the new lot.

Star Wars though, uuggghh yeah no.

It isn't that Enterprise is bad. I enjoy quite a bit of it. But, not because of they were supposedly showing us the origins of the Federation. That came up flat.

"Meet Captain Kirk's childhood hero!" :barf:

I wouldn't watch it if it was 1/10, if it continues to be in the 2/10 to 3/10 range, with a few 4/10, I think that's sufficient enough to be mildly entertaining on a rainy day when I don't feel like going anywhere. If there were a bunch of 10/10 shows I'd only watch them, but those are just too rare.

Yeah, I appreciated that more in the novels (still not entirely) but their own adventures where pretty fun and made up more of the series. If they had had a little more faith in the show and made a few tweaks here and there I think it would have been an amazing show.

It was season 2 that made me drop out until season 3 back in the day. That was a good 30 episodes, Discovery isn't doing all that well after 4.

These entire "how they became..." series/stories never live up to the hype. Look at the Star Wars prequels or Enterprise.
ENT is my second favorite Star Trek franchise series after TOS (for me, ENT's S4 ranks up there with TOS S1)

The Star Wars prequels...yeah, they just suck. ;) [My favorite there is still the original 1977 'STAR WARS' before it became 'A New Hope" - and before it was 'Special Editioned' -- Han always shot first; and Jabba the Hutt was just a thug's name...nothing more.]

The thing is, for me, I don't need to know the story behind every bloody thing that's happened in Star Trek! If all they're doing is showing us where things came from and the origins, then you get nothing new, only checking off boxes.

They can just as well do a Trek series pre-TOS, and just make it a flat out adventure, with no concern for trying to give fans the backstory for everything. Just go out and explore and let the series tell its own stories.

Interesting. The ENT crew was the one I took the longest warming to. Still can't really stand Bakula's Archer. The acting is off for me, cringeworthy even. Still can barely remember Hoshi or Mayweather who were just blah to me. T'Pol and Trip were the most memorable, although I didn't like her character in the beginning. Phlox and Reed were decent but still less memorable than say The EMH Doctor or Bashir or McCoy or Worf or Odo. Loved Shran but I always adore Coombs.

As for DSC, I find Saru, Lorca, Burnham, Tilly and Stamets all pretty interesting to watch. To me, they are plenty 'likeable' in their own ways. I want to get to know each of them more and see how they develop. I have a feeling Tyler is going to be a good addition too. Landry I didn't care for, so I am glad she's gone as a cautionary tale.

ENTERPRISE had some of the worst episodes in all of Star Trek but that doesn't mean I didn't think the series had had some genuinely awesome moments. It's basically the Sixth Doctor of the Star Trek franchise.

It's not that Colin Baker isn't a good Doctor.

Just like Scott Bakula isn't a bad Captain (in the acting sense) or his crew.

It's just that they had to really deal with some horrible behind the scenes nonsense. Including the fact it's very clear the production fighting and creative differences were among the worst in all of Trek history (and that's saying something).

The 4th season was awesome.
The 3rd season was pretty good too.
I think the 5th season would have been amazing.

It gave us "Detained", the Vulcan Episodes, the Mirror Universe episodes, and a few others which really showed off the series.

Weirdly, I think the worst problem of the show was also the backstory at the time in RL. The War on Terror was in full swing and it was clear the writers were caught flat footed as people were very polarized politically and unhappy with the fact it was a show which didn't have anything to say about current events vs., say, Deep Space Nine.

Said having "nothing to say" would also have not been a problem if not for the fact the 1st two seasons were about terrorism and retaliation for sneak attacks.
