Star Trek @ BigFinish?

They've tried for Trek before CBS took over from Paramount and Gary Russell was BF Producer around 2005/06. James Swallow who's written for BF and Trek novels I beleive was involved.

Big Finish are definitely interested and co-exec producer Nicholas Briggs is a HUGE Trek fan

I talked to someone from BigFinish via their offical Facebook Page...they love the idea and would do it as soon as their release schedule allows.

Yes I have spoken to Mr Briggs a time or two about it, we are aquainted - very nice guy

It seems pretty feasible, then.

Kor

Yes from Big Finish's POV, its just convincing CBS.

BF believe it or not are a very small company despite the amount they have going on!!!! Doctor Who, Blakes 7,. Dorian Grey, The Prisoner, The Avengers (Steed & Mrs Peel not the costumed guys), Survivors, Classic Novels etc

I'm nopt sure but now Fan Film restrictions are in place would be a PERFECT time for CBS to grant an audio licence to Big Finish.

Listening to S&S Captain Sulu Adventures and the first one is... a bit odd to say the least.

As a Big Finish customer who has (and has heard pretty much all of) their Doctor Who releases and spin-offs, its actually a blessing for me they can't do Star Trek too. There's so many they could do without scratching the surface.

They tried Stargate, but the audience just expected a TV revival so never got fully behind it.

True that.

Quoting myself here from another thread...
I've said this before, but it bears repeating; back in the day when we kicked around the idea of doing a Star Trek audio series at Big Finish, the concept was to base it around a new ship and a new crew (echoing what was happening at the time in the novels with New Frontier, Stargazer, Gorkon, Vanguard etc), with a format that would allow 'guest-star' roles for characters from other shows.

I also talked about the idea a bit on this podcast over at Ten Forward.

It's my understanding that ultimately, the project didn't go ahead because the rights costs were high; but it's still a cool idea and I'd love to write a Trek audio series...

I haven't listened to the podcast yet but would you mind giving a brief synopsis/Which characters you wanted to bring back please?

IIRC, the basic concept was that it would be set on a "mercy ship", a hospital vessel that traveled around the Federation providing help where it was needed.

I imagine the guest stars would have been whatever ST actors we could have got at the time!

I've got notes on how I'd want Big Finish Trek range to work, I'm gonna write it up into a full project proposal [EDIT: starting now while I'm pumped up]!

We know from the ENGAGE podcast's latest episode John van Critters is the guy to contact at CBS, I'll also send it to Big Finish themselves.

Great! Feel free to "steal" anything from my petition text :-) Maybe lets work together on this?
