What if it is in the early 24th/late 23rd century? Sulu might not have been promoted in that time. @PhaserLightShow
The novels are set a number of years after DS9 and inferred that Ezri switching to command was due to her growing from what she was during the show. Ezri's jump to captain is a bit more plausible than Kirk's in Star Trek XI, IMO...
USS Enterprise with Pike, Spock, Number One, Boyce, Tyler, and Colt. I don't care which universe it takes place in, but throw in a couple of those goose-neck view screen things.
I presume they'll take it to the Abramsverse both in setting and style. It's probably the most commercially safe. - which is unfortunate for me, as I absolutely loathe AbramsTrek. But aside from that, I am curious as to where they'll set it because it's not just that obvious what they'll do with this. Because they aren't going to step on Pine and Co shoes - so what else is there? I suppose my own preference is for a hard reboot featuring Kirk and Co alá nuBSG. Start again with an all new canon.
I respect your opinion but would rather something based on previous events (and building on them) instead of something new. I agree with the Former and Latter (more so with the former)! I also Loathe AbramsTrek. But would not like a hard reboot (or any reboot at all!) just something that builds on Established Canon and something with cool references to earlier Trek and something only Big Fans can understand (or other people who are Trek writers, related to Trek writers, friends of Trek writers, or Memory Alpha/Beta addicts)! Because most people here (including me!) are Big Trek fans. Well, it is not good for me. Just my opinion, though. I would choose prime. A prime universe one was made on the BBS too! With the Constellation class USS Orion (small by the Dominion War in the 24th century, where the story is set). The story is "Star Trek Orion" made by @Bry_Sinclair! I respect your wish for an official one and agree with it too. @PhaserLightShow
Why would you not want long story arcs? What do you not like about them? Personally, I do not like unrelated stories! Only story arcs! @PhaserLightShow
Planet of the week doesn't lend itself to long story arcs. I think Trek needs to finally get back to some planet of the week stories. That was the core of TOS and the other shows never captured it.
Continuity Lock Out http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ContinuityLockout Note the comment regarding Trek and Dr. Who
I hate planet of the week! Unless that planet is Romulus, Remus, or Kronos (or some other established planet!). What is good about Planet of the Week? @PhaserLightShow
I would have liked to have seen Captain Sulu, but I'm sorry to say I think George Takei is too old now to play an active duty captain. Maybe he could guest star as an admiral once in a while. No, we should not get someone else to play Sulu. Same goes for all the prime universe cast, really. Maybe Michael Dorn with all the makeup, but it was made very clear in DS9 that he was never going to command, and at the end he was on his way to being Federation ambassador to Kronos. Which could also be an interesting opportunity for him to guest star. I'd like to see the prime universe after the end of DS9, see the reconstruction after the Dominion War, etc. But it would have to be a new ship and crew. And I like story arcs. Sure, tell some one-short episodes also, but there should also be story arcs. Planet of the Week stories mostly bore me.
