Resemblances with Into Darkness?

Agreed, STID was a supreme disappointment even when compared to the extremely exciting 09 film. For the first time in my life, I don't care about the next one.. I'll see it when it opens for sure, but I'm more excited about Stat Wars.

Never thought I'd say that.

Agreed. I was luke-warm on ST '09 but saw some serious potential and after all the great buzz about the screenplay I was pretty pumped to see STID. Paid extra to see it in 3-d a night early at 8pm, blah blah blah. And then...it sucked. For the first time, I won't be in line on opening night and super pumped. I'll catch a matinee a week or two into the run when it's convenient. Oh well...

Of course, if we weren't made to wait 4 years for Into Darkness, maybe it would've been received better. So far, the wait for 3/13 is about the same and this time I bet they're hoping it'll be so long we've forgotten ID.

I liked ID, actually, and found the story relevant. I'm not interested in a political debate, I know which way a bunch of you lean.

You know, I certainly thought of Deep Space Nine when I watched the story unravel on the movie screen. I think it's kinda telling that a 90s television series with television budget manages to tell the story more compellingly than a 2010s big budget movie.
That is your opinion, of course, but I can say it would be utterly absurd to compare the story arc of a television series, to a two hour movie.

Why would it be absurd? I'm only comparing them in terms of entertainment value and expressiveness. Both installments at their core tell a story. They use different methods, budgets etc., of course. But they do have a story. So why can't I compare how this story affects me as a viewer?

I felt the new Star Trek reboots, despite parroting and taking those few well known lines; I felt It completely departed from the roots of its morals. It has its own political agenda painted over it, and the universe from TOS to DS9 is no where to be seen.

You can, it's just that comparing the storytelling capability of an entire series arc to a two hour movie, and putting them on equal ground, is absurd.

That's like saying you like Bill's work better than Bob's because Bill accomplished more in the 24 hours he was there, rather than Bob who was only required to be there for two.

Whereas I thought it was closer to the 1986 TOS novel Dreadnought.

What with its evil Admiral character first trying to seem like a good guy, Big powerful dreadnought type star ship thats part of said admiral's plans, and involving the TOS crew, also a hunt for rouge starfleet officers that turns out to have a twist in it that reveals said admiral as the evil master mind.

That's absurd. Everyone knows Orci can't read.

They are pretty common themes. The overpowered ship is just coincidence I think. nuTrek to date, has only been able to raise the stakes by way of introducing an unbeatable foe.

...and finding reasons to put nubile science officers in various states of undress. God bless America!

But we had that before in Patterns of Force.

A completely topless Mr. Spock ... with a little S&M thrown in.

:)
