Jenna is Going

I seem to recall the Brigadier also being in the TARDIS in Mawdryn Undead.
Ah, yes, that's right. And in two different incarnations, even (One of them was taken deep into the bowels of the TARDIS, so, they couldn't interact again)

I don't really care if Clara leaves. Companions come and go and, while I have no dislike for Clara, I can't say I'm terribly fond of her, either.

It would be nice if they had a male companion for a change.

In the Nerd Debate over "Who can be considered a Companion", I believe, the rule is "2 Seperate TARDIS Trips" to qualify as a Companion

I wasn't aware the definition had been so formally delineated. I guess I never received a copy of that ruling from the Nerd Council.

Actually, the Brig did tavel back in The Three Doctors, as well as The Five Doctors, didn't he? So, that's two TARDIS Trips, therefore, technically a Companion ;)

Plenty of people have travelled in the TARDIS without being companions -- Jackie Tyler, for instance, or the Master.

Then what about Liz Shaw, she no trips in the TARDIS yet was a companion for a full season?

I think another rule covers her.

I just remember, a while back, when it was debated about Astrid, Katarina, Grace, The Brig and Benton, and a few others, someone pointed at the "2 Seperate TARDIS Trips" rule.

LOL Christopher, yea, I didn't get my copy from The Nerd Council, either. Hence, why I couldn't just look it up :alienblush:

I think Liz counts and the Brig doesn't because a companion is someone who adopts a role as the Doctor's partner or assistant, whether a traveling partner or a partner in scientific work. The Brig and the Doctor worked together, but on paper, the Doctor was the Brig's assistant, not the other way around. And the Brig was a member of a larger organization which happened to employ the Doctor as a scientific advisor -- which, in fact, was Liz's job before it was the Doctor's. I don't think anyone would say the Brigadier was Liz Shaw's companion.

I mean, heck, if everyone who's traveled more than once in the TARDIS were a companion, then the Master would be a companion. So I don't think such a rigid definition is a good idea.

I believe it's a subscription based professional body. No pay, no memo's.

And they'll sue you for calling yourself a nerd without authorisation...

Did Liz ever ride in Bessie?

Grace was in the TARDIS. Plus, she and the Doctor kissed. Given how cozy things got with the Eleventh Doctor and his companions (creepily so, to me), Grace qualifies.

Game Of Thrones star Rose Leslie, 27, is the favourite to become the Doctor’s next companion, according to the latest odds from Ladbrokes.

Odds of her stepping out of the TARDIS are currently at 14/1 when – or rather if – Jenna Coleman leaves, which is rumoured to be part of the Christmas storyline.

The betting company also have 16/1 for Chris Addison and Peter Capaldi – who were both in The Tick Of It – join forces once again, and the same odds are on offer for Karen Gillan – who was Amy Pond during Matt Smith’s Tardis tenure – to make a shock return to the show.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “Jenna’s exit came as a big shock, but punters don’t seem to mind too much and are in the thick of it placing bets on a Capaldi-Addison reunion.”

Not that I have much faith in that article or those odds.

I surprisingly don't particularly care either way. I guess Clara didn't make that great an impression - not unlikeable, but too smarmy and full-of-herself and not distinctive enough. Lets hope series 8 will change this.

And I would love to see Addison on DW. Bring it on!

He actually is guest starring in the S8 finale. But I doubt he'll be staying as a companion. In fact, I'm reasonably certain it'll likely be someone unknown, so these sort of guess which celebrity speculations are probably off the mark.

Although, just as speculation, I've been thinking a suggestion someone once made of promoting Jenny (of the Paternoster Gang) to companion. It actually does make some sense, she's familiar to the audience, but we know next to nothing about her as a character, essentially leaving her a blank slate. And unlike Vastra and Strax, she won't require prosthetics. She'll satisfy fan moaning about too many companions from modern day, and there won't be any romance between her and the Doctor at all. She could basically be a modern-day Leela, a warrior woman for companion. The rub is, what reason does she have to leave her home to travel with the Doctor?

The Jenny traveling with the Doctor could be from before she met Vastra and it's the Doctor who introduces them. Timey-whimey

“You know nothin’ Doctor Oo”

I dunno, I think she’s great, but much as I adore Scottish redheads would she be a bit too like Amy?

We’d also have to consider, would this be the first time a companion had done full frontal nudity before Who?

Aw hell who am I kidding bring it on! Especially if she's playing a non human or historical companion.

Yeah but Catrin Stewart is only going to get older, this isn’t like River when you can insert some Time Lord DNA timey wimeyness.

I Do think Jenny would be a great companion, I’ve adored her from the start and meeting Catrin Stewart at a convention just made me like her more cos she’s lovely. I think it would be a hard sell to have her travel with the Doctor without breaking up the Paternoster gang though so I don’t think it’s likely.
