James Corden to host Late, Late Show

I rather enjoyed the show he did with Stephen Fry where it was just the two of them (in homage to Tom Snyder's version of the show.)

I will miss him. Hopefully he reinvents the genre of game shows. :)

I remember seeing some of his interview with Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Craig won a Peabody for that.

These are the reasons why he will be missed, he mixed up the format so well.

And as a gay guy I like the fact when he talks to people he doesn't know well he says girlfriend or boyfriend or whatever you like in a way that is fully natural.

They really should do what they did last time and have test people try out and pick who they like most. Craig sucked in those episodes but shined afterwards, maybe we can get that to happen again.

Corden's just horrible. I avoid anything he's in...

I heard similar things about Catherine Tate when she was announced as a guest on Doctor Who. And then the audience saw what she brought to the screen, quickly becoming a fan favorite.

When Corden was announced as a guest on Doctor Who, it was met with instant backlash. Yet, he quickly became another fan favorite, winning over most fans with ease. I was unfamiliar with him before that appearance, but have seen him in other places since then. Three Musketeers, History Boys, that play on Broadway (something about governors) which was shown in movie theaters, and other places.

I have no problem imagining him bringing something new to the show, and think he'll do just fine.

After all, what was Ferguson known for (in the states) before the Late, Late Show? Exactly one thing - the Drew Carey Show, and he wasn't exactly impressive there. Why not give him a chance and see what Corden does with it?

Craig is also a huge nerd and Doctor Who fan, so that helps. He also does meaningful monologs about the death of his dad and when Brittany Spears was doing drugs he talked about his personal struggles.

He has had guests on that you would see else where, he doesn't always go for the fake laughs, he goes for heart and fun mixed in with seriousness if need be.
And he did glorious cold openings:

His greatest talent, though, was making his interviews feel like genuine conversations, and not scripted, rehearsed skits.

My favorite of his opening numbers was from two Halloween's ago.

I miss that !@#$ing rabbit.

Corden would be a terrible choice. He just hasn't got what it takes. Even in interviews he is too shy to push the boundaries and loosen up a bit. He's a Take That wannabe not a chat show host.

I think this will always be my favorite "musical opening," for no other reason than that it was just so incredibly random. I turned on the TV late at night, and thought, "What the fuck is this?" I laughed myself silly, just because it was so very ridiculous--like a group kids saying, "Hey, let's put on a show!"

I was just about to post that! When the puppets show up in the middle is stunning and perfect and insane.

I'm not interested in James Corden at all, but Craig having his own syndicated show? Sounds awesome! I hope he can bring along Geoff!

Damn, in all of this I never thought about what's to happen to Geoff. Can't imagine Corden would be ceeping him around and even if, he wouldn't be able to recreate Geoff and Craig's banter...

I think Geoff and Secretariat are Craig's IP.

I really doubt that, that would be incredibly unlikely. I'm pretty sure CBS owns them.

Do you think Craigy will do any special last shows before he goes? I miss Liza and that bunny.

I'm sure of it, looking at the special shows Craig has done over the years and how he would use any excuse to deconstruct the genre... he'll leave in a blaze of glory!:bolian:
(And I will cry through it all the way.)
