FLASH GORDON Reboot?

Australians can't be heroes?
Oh no, it's just that the personality that you might attribute to being his all, is completely fictitious.

You know how some actors are lucky enough to get by with just reading out loud?

(Keaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanu!!)

This guy not so much, he has to act his ass off just to claw his way back up to zero.

Australians can't be heroes?

Course not. Australia is entirely peopled with criminals, didn't you watch The Princess Bride? :shifty:

Anyway, 2takes actually hits on the main problem with this whole reboot concept: reboot Flash Gordon is basically what NuTrek already is. Could lead to brand confusion. ;)

Oh, yeah. But it's the only thing I've ever seen him in, so I have no idea what his range is. He may look the part, but I don't know if he can play it. It's like the guy who plays Duke in Haven. Based on looks, he'd make a great Doc Strange. But could he actually manage the portrayal?

Plus, Freddie Mercury has sadly left us. I just don't see how this film could work. ;)
They could call it Flash Gordon versus The Queen of Mercury as an homage. Actually, as much as I've come to appreciate the 80s version, I'd like to see a more faithful adaptation.

I had a change of Heart.

Ming the Merciless:
Laurence Fishburn.

Flash Gordon: Mehcad Brooks

Dr. Hans Zarkov: Jaleel White

Dale Arden: Dana Davis

Princess Aura: Rihanna

Prince Vultan: http://gameofthrones.wikia.com/wiki/Hafþór_Júlíus_Björnsson Idris Elba

Prince Barin: D.B. Woodside

Klytus: Joe Morton

General Ziva (Kala in the 1980 movie): Lisa Bonet.

...

To make this list I had to enter the phrase "Large black Men" into Google.

AS a black man, this lists rocks.

What about Karl Urban as Zarkov, as for Vultan, Brian Blessed (true he's already played the role)

I saw Brian Blessed last year on a chat/interview show.

The man has an exciting personality the size of a mountain.

What about Brian as Ming?

:)

Did everyone see Ted 2 years back?

John, Flash Gordon was the most important influence of our formative years. He taught us right from wrong, good from evil. And that the word "acting" apparently has an extremely broad definition.

What definition of Queen would that be?

Becuase I would watch a movie about Flash Gordon as the bouncer at the door to a gay strip club on Mercury.

"Hey, didn't you save every one us?"

"5 space dollars."

"Every man, every woman and every child?"

"5 space dollars or fuck off."

Would anyone really want another Flash Gordon movie ?

I'd really like to see Earth getting pacified by mechs, monsters and Stormtropers in armour that practically looks like Michael bays Transformers characters at their worst.

Remember Zod telling the President to Kneel.... This time around I can see Ming eating Obama's severed served face... Oh Barry is still alive, Ming is just had his face removed and prepared expertly by his kitchen.

Elements of Independence Day would be good too, showing the obliteration of Monuments.

I just can't imagine the sex being so good that you would betray your planet (0r country, or city or football team.).

What Aura does, her betrayal, has to be more about daddy issues surely?

Although if she really did just switch sides because Flash is that good in the sack, you have to wonder how close was she conversely to making Flash Gordon switch sides because of her own sexual aptitude?

How they used gravity in John Carter was terrible, and that whole breathing thing in Man of Steel was as terrible...

But if most of the species Ming dominates have been raised on Moons for millions of years, shouldn't they be significantly less strong than human beings?

Although the artificiality of the moons of Mongo might mean that the moons are relatively Earth sized and than Mongo is a super sized planet... Maybe an artificial planet? Although if the moons are revolving around a piece of technology on Mongo, then Mongo does not have to be larger or smaller than any other planet. Any one of Mongos moons could actually be much larger than Mongo.

You disappoint me, Guy (awesome though your ideas otherwise are). I thought you of all people would take up the Flesh Gordon challenge.

I've still yet to see the original Flesh Gordon.

I even have a rather sad story about wanting to go see it. I was all into Star Trek and skiffy by then. That was 1974, and I was 8. So, they had an ad on TV. I distinctly remember that it was during the evening news or just after in the game show block, so sometime between 6:30-7:30 PM, on one of the three network stations. And they showed Flesh sword-fighting with a stop-motion creature. So, I saw that and was all excited, and wanted to go see it, and..... I found out what it meant to be rated X. Or, well, I learned that it was bad and naughty, and that I wasn't allowed to see it. But can you imagine?!? They ran ads for an X-rated movie on TV back in the day at hours like that. Man, we've really declined since then!

Zarkov: Edward James Olmos

I can see that, but he's too old now, isn't he? He's 67 now, plus he really doesn't look the part.

Are you serious? The original Ming, Charles Middleton, was 62 when he first created the role and played it in two more serials for 5 years.

Interesting...:vulcan:

I would have thought that Middleton was around late 30s or maybe early 40s at that time.

I didn't check the dates, but I think he did Laurel & Hardy's "Flying Deuces" around that time?

I've seen both of them so long ago that I don't remember anything past the awful acting, and chose not to download the two movies yesterday (what a coincidence!) while scanning through a massive list of crappy old scifi movies... I did however download Starcrash.
