Y'know the whole "Ronan supercharged his Universal Weapon with the Power Stone" thing made me wonder: could Thor 3 feature the MCU version of Surtur wielding Twilight, a Fire Demon sword powered by another Infinity Stone?
After it was revealed that the Tesseract was the MCU version of the Cosmic Cube and an Infinity Stone, I was a bit surprised that the Casket of Ancient Winters wasn't an Infinity Stone as well.
I believe that the only Infinity Gems/Stones that we haven't seen yet are the Soul Gem and the Time Gem (assuming you believe that Loki's staff houses the Mind Gem, which hasn't been confirmed, I don't think).
I think the Soul Gem could easily feature in
Doctor Strange.
io9 did an article on
Guardians and had a section the stones. Apparently, James Gunn confirmed Ronan was using the Power Gem. They back you up on the gems and speculate that the Soul Gem will appear along with Adam Warlock. What appears to be a cocoon that Adam has been known to use is seen in the Collector's display case. Of course, it could be Kismet, which would be a big fake-out! But, since Adam has a special relationship with the Soul Gem, it would be nice if he were to show up with it. Especially given his role in the
Infinity Guantlet mini-series and his frenemy status with Thanos.
But to further back-up these, here's what we've seen them do:
- The Tesseract powered Hydra's weapons, but also was used by Thor to transport back to Asgard at the end of The Avengers. This most likely would make it the Space Gem.
- The Aether seemed to control the portals that showed up leading to the Convergence. Since the Covergence involved different realities, it seems this would make the Aether the Reality Gem
- Loki's staff, when utilized, allowed him to take control of others, including Hawkeye, Dr. Selvig, and a few S.H.I.E.L.D. operatives.
- Ronan's stone was shown with the ability to destroy things. It was feared that simply allowing the stone to touch a planet could cause it's destruction. Seems pretty powerful to me. And, again, according to the i09 article, James Gunn confirms this to be the Reality gem.
I agree, a
Doctor Strange movie with the Soul Gem making its MCU appearance makes sense. The Time Gem is a bit trickier. Given the success of
The Winter Solider, I'd say it's likely we won't see the Time Gem in
Captain America 3, though the storytelling possibilities of a Gem that would allow Steve to travel back to the 40's is interesting, if nothing else.
It's really too bad Sony owns
X-Men because the Time Gem would help answer one of the main problems with
Days of Future Past, namely, "Why was Kitty suddenly able to transport people through time?" Granted, they didn't want to use Rachael Summers (and rightly so, they don't need to further complicate things. Not to mention, it would have possibly spoiled a reveal at the end). But, I digress.
Honestly, I think they'd be best suited only having the Time Gem utilized for short jumps in time. While
DoFP worked, time travel is tricky at best. It could be used well, and it could be used horribly. Though, going back to what I said earlier, it would be great to see Steve zapped by something in
Age of Ultron and disappear during the climax. Then, during a scene during or after the credits, he awakens to find himself back in the 1940's.
Of course, those familiar with the comics know that
Age of Ultron, the comic storyline, involved time travel, with Ultron attacking them from the future...
