GOTG Means a "Farscape" Film Can NEVER Get Made Now

Not that I care as FS lost its way for me around the second season but think about it;

Roguish guy from Earth who quips in pithy post-modern sayings

Blue and green women distinguished by their colours

Funny little alien who wise cracks

Big hulking guy who is a warrior/brute

Which cast am I talking about there?

Show a FS movie today to a kid who's just sen GOTG and they're going to say it's a cheap GOTG knock off!

I bet the cast of FS are going to be PISSED OFF when they go to the cinema this weekend to see this blockbuster and think,

"Fuck! That COULD'VE been us!!!"

And that's why there'll never be a FS film now.

I don't know... "There is already a similar movie" doesn't seem to be an argument that ever stops Hollywood studio people from making a movie. On the contrary, quite often that seems to be the main reason FOR making certain movies.

I think a Farscape movie would become increasingly likely the more money Guardians of the Galaxy makes. Studios will be wondering what they have in their stables that is similar.

That's what I was thinking. If it's successful I would think the door would only be further opened for a Farscape movie.

The main reason is that a Farscape movie would be terrible and gross about $3400.

On the contrary to your contrary, I'm sure Hollywood studio people decide against making movies for that very reason all the time; we just rarely hear about it. Sure, there are always exceptions, and some megahits (say, Gladiator) absolutely do get a bunch of similar projects greenlit. But for every project that gets made, a dozen others don't.

The logic of this thread:

"What, the Beatles are the #1 group in America? We'll, shoot, we can't send over the Stones or the Dave Clark Five, then...."

I wonder if there was anyone in 1977 watching Star Wars and lamenting how impossible a Star Trek movie had just become.

The Micronauts

Fun fact: Bugg from The Micronauts was actually in early drafts of TGOTG script.

How long was Adam's Ark (Battlestar: Galactica in development before Star Wars came out? Star Trek revival: same question.

But would that be Australian dollars?
Australia has its own currency?

Not really. We mostly just trade kangaroo scrotums.

I recently heard (I think on Mission Log) that Paramount was apparently hesitant to greenlight Star Trek TMP for a while because they thought people wouldn't go see yet another space opera movie so shortly after Star Wars. But that was the 70s. I don't think anyone in Hollywood thinks like that anymore.

Farscape is over and had a good conclusion. There's no reason to make a movie now, even if we wanted one.

Guardians was Farscape before Farscape was even a twinkle in someone's eye. Certainly the modern version with Starlord uses different characters, but the basis of Guardians is from comics that originated in the 1970's with similar themes.
