Ant-Man: Info, Pics, Rumors, Casting and Details till release

That sucks, but it makes sense that there would be some pretty drastic changes to the movie now that the writer and director have been changed.

I like how a lot of places are trying to make it a real beat-up when all that is really happening is that they'll have to recast Wilson's character now. No big whoop, that happens from time to time...and often with less time to spare than they have on Ant-Man.

^ Before Watchmen? ;)

Thing is this kinda thing happens in movies all the time, but you know certain people are gonna start making out they left because of "big evil Marvel" etc and not believe anything else.

Shame about Patrick Wilson though; like that guy

Well, we don't know how big the roles were that were written out. So it may not even be a drastic change. Of those two people, most people reporting this story didn't even know one of them was cast in the first place. It may suck for them, but it's not necessarily a dramatic thing.

I think it's likely that because of the delays Patrick Wilson wouldn't be able to finish Ant-man in time to prep for his next role.

Projects were starting to overlap.

Just in from the Marvel Studios Comic-Con Panel:

Corey Stoll is playing Darren Cross

Evangeline Lilly is playing Hope Van Dyne (Hank Pym's daughter)

Both Ant-Men (Douglas and Rudd) are in attendance, BTW. It's the first Comic-Con for both of them. Corey Stoll and Evangeline Lilly are also there.

ETA: It's confirmed that Darren Cross will become Yellowjacket in the movie.

I liked how (according to the live blog I watched) they seemed to say that Hank Pym was Ant Man at one point, and Lang will be his replacement. There is nothing saying there couldn't be superheroes between Cap's supposed death and the first appearance of Iron man, as long as the heroes weren't generally known, which you'd expect would be easy for Ant Man. Its nice to know that Pym isn't just the inventor of the Ant Man tech.

His cousin is Crossfire (William Cross), who is a bit more noteworthy. Darren Cross seems to have the big science-y corporation thing going for him, which is why I suspect he was considered for this role.

Glad they're using Yellowjacket who is my favorite Pym identity, even if he's a villain. I hope Giant-man/Goliath might show up in a sequel or as an easter egg. Maybe intro Bill Foster.

It would be cool to get Foster as Goliath in a sequel. I also like the inclusion of Yellowjacket. A fight between two shrinking people has the potential to be awesome.

This is not your father's Ant-Man. I don't get why Hank Pym has to be pushing 70 instead of being closer in age to Tony Stark. And what's wrong with Janet Van Dyne as a character? Instead, old Hank has a daughter named Hope? Marvel is really reinventing the wheel here.

If Evangeline Lilly played Janet Van Dyne, it would almost have to be someone who had next to no relationship with Hank Pym. The almost inevitable result would be Scott Lang and Janet being a couple. Is that what we want?

As things stand now, the door is wide open to a historic piece with Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne together as characters (with all their human flaws and superhuman accomplishments) as Cold War superheroes. I think that's still promising. This movie is about passing the torch. By using Hope Pym, they've chosen to not jumble up Hank Pym's internal relationship with other characters more than necessary except to remove him from a floating timeline. I think that's the better option. Like I said, there's room for a one shot, an historic movie, a flashback episode or two on Agents of SHIELD, etc. If they had made Evangeline Lilly play Janet Van Dyne, that door would be closed forever.

ETA: I will say I'm really excited about Corey Stoll. He was the highlight of the first season of House of Cards and I'm sure he'll be fun in that role.
