I just started reading the S.C.E books and I am really enjoying them. I finished the first two Omnibuses, stories #1-8. I have a few questions.

Did they ever do the third omnibus with stories 9-12? I was not able to find it on Amazon. I thought I did but it was only story 12 Some Assembly Required not the omnibus Some Assembly Required.

Then there is the price. The first one cost be like 8 bucks but the second was over $20

And why do the covers look like comic books?

Oh and while looking at memeory Beta http://memory-beta.wikia.com/wiki/Star_Trek:_Corps_of_Engineers

There are some books listed that are not numbered yet seemed to have been published during the series of numbered books. For instance The light. Any help on this series would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, they did. Here's the Amazon page for it. They actually have released 13 compilations, collecting up to book 66. (As noted on the MB page you linked to below.)

After book 66, they rebranded series from Star Trek: S.C.E. to Star Trek: Corps of Engineers and dropped the numbers from the books. So it's really the same series, just under a different title. Those eight unnumbered novellas are the only ones that haven't been released as part of a compilation yet, IIRC.

Ah thanks. Those unnumbered ones, some seemed where published in 2006, in the middle of the series. Will I mis stuff if not read in order? What never mind. I see how it is going. I think.

You should definitely read the series in numerical order. It's very serialized. The plots are pretty episodic, but the character arcs evolve steadily from story to story. All the SCE stories are numbered, and come before the eight unnumbered CoE installments (although there are some flashback stories here and there).

Thanks Christopher. As soon as I posted that question I saw how they were ordered. Now yet another question. Do I need to read the entire Gateway series before I read Here there be Monsters?

With the exception of a couple of recent things like Destiny, most Trek Lit crossovers are designed so you can read as many or as few installments as you wish. They don't so much tell one big interlinked story as a series of distinct stories that are part of their respective series and that cover a common theme, or show the different crews dealing with different aspects of an event. (Kind of like how TNG's "Journey's End" and "Pre-emptive Strike," DS9's "The Maquis" and "Tribunal," and VGR's "Caretaker" form an evolving narrative about the Maquis -- and even all feature Gul Evek! -- but still work as standalone episodes of their own separate series.) Really, the only unifying story in Gateways is "A bunch of spacewarps open up and send people and things to various places and trouble ensues," which allowed for a wide range of largely unconnected stories about people and things ending up where they didn't belong. Here There Be Monsters is an epilogue to Gateways, which is to say that it's just about the da Vinci crew dealing with one last group of aliens that ended up in the wrong place. So no, you don't need to be familiar with the rest of the crossover.

Hmm, OK, the link I gave was to the paperback copy of the compilation, but it looks like they've got the incorrect Kindle version associated with that. This should get you to the Kindle version of the compilation. HTH.

i loved that series, and i wish there was more. now i know all of the cusswords in yiddish!
