^ Thank you! That's very interesting - it would be amazing (though I presume impossible) to see that draft too. Your work was excellent then - I always felt Felt Hand felt very close to how Hertzler was presented Martok in the DS9 Companion, and the affinity he had for the character, but with lots of touches that I wasn't sure he would have perceived. I do love how Kahless was presented - a sense of the Romantic (even Goethe) in him - was this also from his draft? Certainly he is the most overtly Shakespearean in the final draft, but re-thinking it, so much feels like a stage play - even your 'comedic' characters like Pharh, the observers on the sides of the stage. As I said, excellent!

Maybe I wish the idea of Kahless's invective and the hope for Martok changing his people will come up again!

    I have a question,
"Who was the woman in the stasis chamber that Bashir and Ezri found, the "breeding stock?"

This was a great one. The early DS9 relaunch was such a thrill - Trek books where something was really happening. They still hold up now, too, even after Trek has been doing that for over a decade quite well.

Really liked this, even liked it still when we did it for our DS9R series on Literary Treks. The relauch carried on strong with this book and left me wanting more.

I really liked this book, but I think I like Avatar better. So far in my reading of the relaunch I would rank them like this from favorite to not quite favorite:

    Mission Gamma: Twilight
    Avatar: Books 1 and 2
    Abyss
    Demons of Air and Darkness
    Horn and Ivory

As I understood it, those were clones of Ezri, hence the greater disgust from Dax and Bashir. I think there was some mention of surprise that Locken had been able to create them so quickly.

I recently read this novel and loved it just as much as Avatar. I felt like I was watching a two-part television episode - and one of the best ones. It even had the perfect cliffhanger ending midway throughout the book, as the runabout crashes and the team gets separated. Some very nice twists (some I saw coming and some I did not) and some nice character development for all members of Bashir's team.

I like the side stories that feature along with the main plot - the first appearance of Shakaar in the relaunch, Quark meeting Malic (the Orion Syndicate member from Demons of Air and Darkess and the scenes between Kasidy and Joseph Sisko when they realize Jake is missing.

I have a question; Nog's work with the da Vinci/Starfleet Corps of Engineers is from SCE: "Cold Fusion" - was "Cold Fusion" plotted after based on the plot or was the reference a tie-in?

As I recall, I was told, "Nog fixed DS9," so I'm pretty sure they had the story plotted before I started writing.

I am confused. Didn't this book come out in 2001?
