The limits of Mystique's powers

I seriously doubt if she has the ability to change her mass. That's just not something you can change by moving things around.

Change her size, sure, by either making herself more dense or less dense in the process? That's certainly plausible. If she duplicates, say, the Blob, she's probably got a lot of open space inside. But she's not going to way a thousand pounds (or however much he ways). There's just no way unless her mutant power is actually magical in nature.

Perhaps she can convert some essential energy source into mass and back again. It would make sense that she would need some kind of exceedingly powerful energy source to fuel such rapid physical change anyways.

Maybe the extra or lost mass would go to or come from wherever the extra mass Colossus gains and loses goes to and comes from.

Wasn't there recently an X-men comic which showed Mystique with wings on the cover against Angel (not sure if it was the original' Angel or the 'current' one).

Funny thing is, Marvel very briefly (in 2000 I think when the first movie came out) made her into the Rebecca Romjin/Jennifer Lawrence Mystique with the 'scales', but quickly decided this was a bad idea and she was back to her original look pretty much by the next story. Some other changes from this era, such as Beast becoming a more feline creature, stuck around for a while though.

I wonder if her abilities allow her to copy other peoples' language abilities? She spoke Spanish like the janitor in X2 and Vietnamese in Days of Future Past. In the case of the latter I don't see where she would have learned it like a normal human since very few Americans knew of Vietnam before U.S. began military operations there in the late 1960s and Mystique probably spent all of her time between First Class and Days of Future Past investigating Trask, etc

And in the first X-Men, she turned into a statue. So that seems like a bit of cheating to me since she never turned into any non-human like inanimate objects.

And if the 2023 Sentinels' adaptation abilities derive from Mystique's DNA, then why didn't they have organic components or something that Rogue could absorb life force from?

Yes. You must swear to never abuse your power. You must swear to only use it for the betterment of all mankind. Next you must put on a gaudy costume, come up with a code name and some catch-phrases, and go on patrol looking for trouble.

Don't bother applying to the Legion of Super-Heroes -- they've already got one. On second thought, go ahead and apply; you could get a free flight belt.

Since Rogue was (mostly) cut out of the film, how do we know what she could have done against them?

Not sure which illusion you mean, but this is literal. From the normal "rest" position with my hand pointing forward, without moving the rest of my body, I can rotate my right wrist clockwise through a 360° turn so that my hand ends up in its original position. The rest of my arm goes with it partway so that my elbow winds up pointing 180° from the usual direction (and the joint bends accordingly). That can really freak people out, when the hand doesn't already.

At this age it's harder than it used to be and generally I need to brace my hand on a surface to force it through the last 60° or so. I can do the same with my left hand except it goes counterclockwise (and it's harder than the right due to less practice). It's more painful to do both at the same time, but I can.

Where's my flight belt???
