Season SIX OFFICIAL TNG Blu-Ray Discussion Thread

Doesn't make much sense as an artistic decision to me, the dialogue said the power transfer beam came from the deflector array. If it came from the tractor emitter on the ventral secondary hull it would be more plausible.

The stars in the background of the sun inside the Dyson Sphere was an unfortunate oversight as well. Minor niggles that don't take away anything from a fantastic looking season.

TrekCore has it right. They wrote mistake in quotes. It does look like a deliberate artistic choice because of the way it's framed throughout the episode. Coming from the deflector array wouldn't work because the beam and the disruptor fire from the Romulan ship would overlap and would look too cluttered.

I haven't yet seen the error in Relics, but it sounds like that's the one to complain about.

That's quite an oversight, but not a big deal to me.

I'd like to know just how a Dyson Sphere would work practically. It would be permanently day over the entire surface.

This is a very TOS idea. You have a mysterious abandoned structure out in the middle of space. Its mere existence could have huge implications for the galaxy. But in the end, it's never seen or heard about again, and we never find out who built it, nor does anyone care to find out.

The Dyson sphere is a real-world idea. More info is available on Wikipedia

Agreed, but we got to see Scotty again, and that's really what the episode was about! Granted, it was a missed opportunity to explore a really cool concept.

Funny, I watched Relics and had that same thought about the stars inside the sphere.

And as for Man of the People... oh, baby! :techman:

I really liked the Scotty deleted scene, especially the end, because it restores a joke that was there before. As he rejects Troi's help, he declares "I know what I need, and it is not here!" (cut to) "scotch, neat".

Scotty doesn't need therapy, he needs a drink!

I loved that scene too. It actually felt like it could have been kept in the actual episode.

Superb. Superb. Can't wait for season 7, hopefully we'll see something on that soon.

AND THEN ON TO DS9!

Wasn't that the precise location where the power transfer beam emanated in "The Next Phase"? (okay, it was blue, but it seemed to serve the exact same purpose)

Bob

Nah, that was out of the (I think) rear tractor emitter.

Looks like you are right. Here we see the stern tractor emitter in "The Battle".

In "The Next Phase" the energy transfer beam appears to emmanate from the same location.

The obvious conclusion: the tractor beam emitter can also emit energy transfer beams.

The forward "tractor beam emitter" is located in the vicinity of the main navigational deflector as seen in "Déja Q".

It stands to reason that it can also emit energy transfer beams. That's what the dialogue in "Timescape" states (remarkable continuity here, IMHO), but the VFX show a completely different location, unfortunately.

I think that the original VFX team screwed up the first shot of the scene, but rather than to "fix" it in the later scene they decided to leave it as it is, hoping that nobody would care too much. ;)

I also believe that this screencap makes it blatantly obvious, that any emitter on the dorsal's port side couldn't possibly generate a straight beam to connect to the Romulan warbird.

Man I love Birthright part II. Has to be my favorite Worf episode even with all the yoga. That spear through the hoop game looks really easy.

The only thing I don't like about part I is the doctor guy from DS9 who was irrelevant since I haven't seen that show and have no idea who he is.

^^ Dr. Bashir, I presume. Well, I'd think it's fair to mention that unlike several other Star Trek actors he made quite a respectable career in Hollywood after DS9, starring in several major films.

Just finished Aquiel and Face of the Enemy. Some nice FX in these episodes. Always liked Face of the Enemy.

In Aquiel, I noticed some of the scenes where the Enterprise and the comm station where in view together, the Enterprise seemed blurry or distorted. Was that a CGI ship?
