Transformers Age of Extinction Pre-release thread

I think it's probably a combination of Bay and the studio, who somehow think audiences will be happy with nothing less than a movie as HUGE and EPIC and crammed full of action and effects as possible.

As many hacky writers as there are in Hollywood, I just have a hard time believing this is how they would ideally want to write these movies. Even one about giant transforming robots.

My fellow Americans, let me be clear: I am not saying that if you must go to see Transformers this weekend, or any following weekend for that matter, that you should buy a ticket for Chef or X-Men or The Fault in Our Stars or "oh god, anything but Transformers", and dishonestly attend the Hasbro commerci- sorry, "movie", without monetarily rewarding its filmmakers. No, I am not suggesting that. Because that would be... *cough*... wrong. So, don't do it.

Like GI JOE, perhaps the best example of Transformers media were the 80's Marvel comics IMO. It helps that a lot of it was written by the guy who developed the backstory, Bob Budiansky.The 'toon was alright and had some excellent voice acting of course, but it was often hampered by poor writing and animation (The 1986 movie improved on this a bit though). I'll admit I can't really get that much into Beast Wars, I know it's supposed to have some really good writing but the CG animation is really bad, even compared to contemporary stuff like REBOOT.

Looking at the ridiculous and insanely over the top sequels, it's amazing how restrained the first movie looks now. The story flowed along naturally, introduced the Transformers in a really cool way, and actually had a sense of magic and wonder about it.

Hell, even Shia's antics were kind of entertaining to watch.

It's a shame Spielberg didn't continue exerting more of an influence on the following movies, like he did with the first. Because you can really see the difference in quality.

I love the first film. It's one of my favorite blockbuster type films ever made, and definitely my favorite since the 90's. It had the same effect on me that The Avengers had for a lot of people.

I love all of them. The third one even made me sad because of how much they destroyed Chicago. You evil bastards blew up my city!
