At a standard rate? Probably not. The difference is Samuel L. Jackson just loves campy roles and is happy to do things like this on a TV budget. Johansson and Renner are movie stars so they'd probably be reluctant to do a TV appearance anyway and certainly wouldn't be enthusiastic about doing it for less.

Knowing Marvel they may have put something in their contracts that makes them obligated to make X number of appearances in tie-in productions.

We have a pretty good idea of what their contracts are and that they don't include TV tie-in appearances. Samuel Jackson has specifically said his TV appearances were separate from his movie contract.

Granted, had they known about the TV show far enough in advance, they might have done that, but I don't think they accounted for it.

The expense of an AoS appearance by Johanson or Renner could easily be written of as a promotional expense for Age of Ultron. Synergy.

Yeah. Point taken about Jackson taking his gigs where he knows or expects to have a certain amount of fun in the process. And I am absolutely grateful for that.

The others would be Nice to Have Around as well, but...we'll see what can happen, I guess. Maybe Jackson talks them around to his way of thinking at some point, maybe something else happens, maybe nothing does. In any case, we'll get by.

It definitely sounds fannish. But I was jesting-- the quality of the writing has no effect on how substantial the rumors are.

I don't care because this is basically a rumor anyway (and Marvel has been really crappy about keeping guest appearances on the show a secret), but I just want to point out that it's really easy to figure out what's in the spoiler code based on the rest of the posts.

^Sciencefiction.com talks about season 2 but doesn't go in too much detail, but the cast they list are:

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ starring Brett Dalton, Ming-Na Wen, Iain De Caestecker, Elizabeth Henstridge, Chloe Bennet, and Clark Gregg will air on Tuesdays at 9:00pm on ABC starting this fall.

They do mention the show may be darker and the fact there won't be breaks (between Agents of SHIELD and Agent Carter which will be played halfway through AoS):

"... they’re going to show, I believe it’s ten [‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ episodes], eight of [‘Agent Carter’], then twelve [more ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’]… For the most part, this is straight runs of our show..."

It hasn't been announced, though. That just uses first season's cast combined with what has been announced (such as scheduling).

“It’s going to be lo-fi. You’re going back to basics. You’ve got to rebuild S.H.I.E.L.D. from the ground up in a much more dangerous world where your group is outlawed. So it feels like the early, Sean Connery James Bond with the brass knuckles and not afraid to knock somebody off.”

“I thought there were so many things stacked against us last year, and one of them was where the ABC television schedule would put us on for three episodes and then take us down for four weeks. Nobody could get a momentum going and when the show started to be on consistently and having story that carried over in an episodic way, that’s when things started to click. So the great thing about the announcement was, A., we’re moving to nine, where it can be a little darker, like I think Marvel needs to be. And not all of them would have been caught by Coulson and/or May. The lack of familiarity could be as much a challenge to their recapture as any grudges.
