Cat pissing on bed

One of my cats has urinated on my bed three times over the past 2-3 weeks. Any advice on preventing recurrences?

The cat is either mad or sick. So unless you only clean the litter box once a month, take him to the vet.

How many cats do you have?
Are the litter boxes in a good location? Do they provide privacy for the cat?
How often do you clean your litter boxes?
Does your cat have any medical problems? Is she getting old

Have your cat checked out for a urinary tract infection. One of my cats would urinate on the beds whenever she had another infection. Apparently it's quite common.

Yeah, the cat is either sick or pissed off about something.

My cat started doing this several years ago when I changed her food. She was totally healthy, just mad at me for buying different stuff.

Pretty much what everyone said, There's something wrong or kitty is pissed about something. Maybe a vet will help with that. Also keep the bedroom door closed and off limits to kitty.

Stop sleeping in a box of sand?
The whole state is a box of sand. :p

Possibly mad. Over the past two months, she has been showing hostility toward two of the other cats. I don't know where this is coming from all of a sudden; she has lived with these cats all her life, and one of them is from the same litter.

Making matters worse, she has her front claws, and the two cats toward whom she has been hostile do not.

So unless you only clean the litter box once a month, take [her] to the vet.
macloudt and Peach Wookie have seconded this advice. Will do.

How many cats do you have?
Four cats and one dog.

The dog has been a real treasure these past two months when Pumpkin (the pisser) has been hostile toward the other cats. There is always some growling before a fight starts, and the dog will hear it from anywhere in the house and run over to break up the fight or prevent it from starting. Unfortunately, she belongs to my partner's son, who is planning to move out in the fall.

Are the litter boxes in a good location? Do they provide privacy for the cat?
There are two litter boxes. One is in a fairly secluded spot in a small bathroom. The other is downstairs in the entry hall, where it is in a fairly open space, but the cats never go down there except to use the box, so Pumpkin can use it with reasonable privacy.

There are also puppy pads around the house, which are for the dog's benefit, but Pumpkin has been observed to use them from time to time.

How often do you clean your litter boxes?
Daily, which is plenty of time to get really full and stinky with four cats in the house. I should probably start cleaning more often.

Does your cat have any medical problems? Is she getting old
There are no medical problems that we know of. She's about seven years old.

See? Cats are assholes.

A dog pees on your stuff usually because he's dumb and feels bad about it afterwards. (Or as a sign of subordinance.) Cats pee on your stuff when they're mad.

Someone a while back told me that you should have one more litter box than you have cats. This is because some cats won't use a box that is used by other cats, and some cats will not defecate in the same box that they pee in. Not sure if this may be the case in your situation, but buying a couple more boxes couldn't hurt with that many cats.

The cat pissing on your bed is a lot better than what happened to someone I was sharing an apartment with. His cat would just take a dump right in the center of his pillow whenever it was mad at him. Appropriately, it was named Demon.

I used to have a great cat, who, when she couldn't get outside, would pee in a flower pot. Pretty logical, if you think about it from the cat's perspective!

She also on occasion, when she had to throw up, would get up on the kitchen radiator, and throw up in the garbage can!

Nah. One of mine used to pee on the carpet. It turned out that there was something wrong with him health wise :(. He didn't have a mean bone in his body.

The cats I've gotten to know in my life have been some of the nicest creatures (NOT so much to the one cat with health issues though -- but that was due to a situation out of his and our control sadly :(), they pretty much keep us company throughout the year and are pretty affectionate.

My one who is turning 12 this year is pretty smart too. All she has to do is just look at me and then look at something to let me know that she wants me to do something for her. One of the best examples is one time she looked at me and then looked down at a cord and then back at me to let me know that she wanted something done . She knew better than to chew on that cord... but she had to get my attention somehow :p.

One possibility is that she's become irritable because she doesn't feel well or is in pain.

Others have already mentioned this, but if her behavior changed so suddenly then I would assume there is a medical problem. Since they can't tell us what's wrong, acting out unusual or destructive behaviors is a good way for a cat to get our attention. When it comes to going potty or puking, if they do it in a very noticeable place that they know you go to every day (like a bed) then they are trying to tell you something. It doesn't hurt to go to a vet and to possibly get a second opinion if the first vet just brushes it off as normal cat behavior. YOU know your pet better than anyone else, and so you would know best that something has changed.

Update: Pumpkin went to the vet today. The vet says she has an infection and gave us Amoxi. They also are running some tests whose results we don't have yet. A followup appointment is scheduled in two weeks.
