Penny Dreadful - SPOILERS

Penny Dreadful is a possible name for the Doctor Horrible Sequel if Billy is going to Frankenstein his corpse bride.

I guess when exploring the demimonde, the "half world between what we know and what we fear", it's like Vegas, what happens there stays there. Between the seance, the wolves and Vanessa backing down the vampire, it's like things happen but are left alone. "Do not be amazed at anything you see and don't hesitate."

The werewolves of London met the American werewolf in London?

Did he have a Chinese menu in his hand? ;)

And his hair was perfect. :)

So...I guess I'm stupid by extension?

I suppose that means we are as well so join the club. :)

It makes a lot of sense, too, since they're setting up a love rectangle (is that even a term) in that way. She'll have Caliban (who she'll obviously reject), Dorian Grey (a fellow immortal who she could spend eternity with), and Chandler (if he turns out to be a werewolf, which I think is pretty obvious at this point, he'll be a fellow monster that could relate to her newfound status).

Man, it was so obvious it woulda reached out and smacked me. I can't believe I missed it. XD I'm usually pretty quick to pick up on that sort of thing.

This is my new favourite series (along with OB). How I wish this had been the cast and tone of LXG film :). Green is fearless as an actor, and it's really nice to see Josh Hartnett back on screen. Piper's NI accent is a bit outré though.

Oh she's fine!

Besides, if she is going to be the monsters bride...

Her personality and therefore her accent is going to be wiped between death and resurrection.

They'll toff her up.

I think they did something similar in that classic Frankenstein miniseries (toff up Jane Seymour).

I'm not one for horror, and I'm only on episode 2 so far, but I'm liking what I see. Even the horror in it is more of a setting for the story to take place in. And I do appreciate the "literary" take on things.

EPISODE FOUR SPOILERS

This week on Penny Dreadful:
- Ethan, Brona, Dorian, Vanessa and Sembene see a play at the Grand Guignol theater where Frankenstein's creature is working the props.
- Brona runs off at intermission after feeling beneath her station with Vanessa and collapses in a TB coughing fit.
- Sir Malcolm and Victor have a visit from a vampire ("the" vampire?) apparently seeking Vanessa, his recently freed servant dying in the process.
- To comfort Ethan, Dorian takes him to a rat-killing contest not sponsored by the ASPCA and seduces him after getting him drunk on Absinthe.

More hints of Ethan's secret:
- He won't let Victor take his blood
- The play features a werewolf
- I suspect his reaction to the dog tearing through the rats was more than just queasiness
- Strange flashbacks while under the influence (need to see again to analyze)

The title seems to reflect the traditional meaning of demi-monde, a group of people living hedonistic lifestyles.

ETA: How could I forget, the always welcome David Warner as Prof. Van Helsing, here serving as a hematologist specialist.

Some people peeking inside this thread are undeniably weak.

Just saying 'Spoilers" is not going to stop them from spoiling themselves.

Have a modicum of consideration for the jibbering mojos won't you please?

Tags take just a second and they will save an addict from dangeorus over indulgence.

Hmmm...

It's completely outside of Gothic lore, but what if Chandlar is a Wendigo?

I'm not going to tag my entire posts at this point. My spoiler labels are going above and beyond in the vain hope it might help someone peeking in but only want to peek so far. I've actually looked at the first posts about a series I'm watching so maybe someone else does (or maybe not).

Speaking to Ethan's nature, I'm thinking there's some twist as the clues seem to be laid on a bit thick.

Maybe he's not a monster?

He could just be gay.

Well, bisexual, which is gay enough to get you shot back then.

Who do we have left unaccounted for?

The Invisible Man and Jekyl/Hyde.

Who else?

You're joking of course.

But my parents were killed by were-car.

The last menacing sound they heard was the swiping of Knightrider's windshield wipers.

Still not one hundred percent sold on Chandler being a werewolf - or if he is, that he will also turn out to have been the Ripper.

I did like the Van Helsing cameo - hopefully we see more of him since he may be our only castmember (other than Vanessa) to have encountered THE vampire if we're following the book.
