X-MEN: Days Of Future Past (Casting, Rumors, Pics till release)

The Channing Tatum casting is real. They've been working on that for the past couple of months since Lauren Donner suggested wanting him for Gambit a few months ago. I'm okay with it and think he fits the part and should do a great job with it.

I hope he can do the Cajun accent.

X-Men movies finally as incomprehensible as the comics

“Our next movie introduces Cable, Cyclops’s son with a clone of Jean Grey who was raised by a cult in a dystopian alternate future led by his half-sister from a different dystopian alternate future and infected with a techno-organic virus before travelling to the present day to fight his evil clone Stryfe.

“It’s the kind of classic story we can all relate to.”

(and for anyone without a sense of humour, it's a satirical site)

I read that wholly unironically.

Yeah, I would never have guessed it was supposed to not be a serious announcement. I was excited for a second that mayb we were getting Cable in a movie.

I love Cable but his history in the comics is far too convoluted to be filmable.

I have to agree. I'm a big fan of Cable, but they would have to rework him a good bitto make him fit in a movie, and the end result probably wouldn't be worth it.

Probably the easiest way to manage it would be to say he's the son of Cyclops and Jean Grey from an alternate future and leave it at that. His whole thing is being a big badass soldier from the future, anyway, which shouldn't be that hard to sell onscreen.

It's been said before that Stephen Lang would be a perfect Cable.

He's an alternate future Wolverine in the Ultimate Universe. They could always go that route and still have a version of Wolverine after Jackman leaves.

Most likely yes since they recast and have been ignoring most of "Origins".

Recasting doesn't necessarily mean rebooting. No matter what happens with the time travel, Gambit in 1973 should be the same person we saw in Origins, just earlier.

The Wolverine referred back to Origins and also led into DOFP with its stinger. Thus, DOFP and Origins are in the same continuity.

Bryan Singer hopes that fans will just "forget" certain continuity errors.
"Some things you let go. In X-Men 3 Bolivar Trask was an African-American guy, in X-Men 1 I personally wrote the line that of course I now regret: ‘When I was 17, I met a young man named Erik Lensherr’ and then in X-Men: First Class I changed that! Some of these I hope the audience will forget about but for the bulk of it I pay attention to the universe."

I have not seen the new film, but the little continuity errors don't bug me because the over story (and the overall intent of the story) is so good.

When a film is awful, but praised as good, and has tons of continuity glitches, I'm a little less forgiving.

He grew up on the Mississippi bayou in Alabama, and lived in New Orleans, and his father was born in New Orleans. He says he does a good Cajun accent.

I didn't know that. If that's what X-Men:AoA becomes, I'd be okay with that.

Those are forgivable, especially the two Singer mentions: 1) Trask is only credited as "Trask" and not Bolivar Trask in X-Men: The Last Stand so they could be conceivably two different people or somehow related - maybe the "Trask" in The Last Stand is a descendant or a distant relative to the one in Days of Future Past and 2) Xavier could have just forgotten the exact age when he met Erik - especially since it seems he's in his early-to-mid 20's in First Class. So I can buy Xavier mis-remembering the exact age.

There are, however, bigger continuity problems at play in the X-Men film universe - those I hope Singer addresses and I feel like he will (for the most part). Although, as Flying Spaghetti Monster said, all that really matters is that Days of Future Past is a good movie. If it is, I feel like most will be forgiving if there are larger continuity problems or if things go unexplained (such as Xavier returning from the dead).
