    To be fair, when you're going up against Jose Fernandez, you might as well just pack it in. That dude's peripherals are insane.

    Hopefully Bumgarner can have a come back start today and do well. Giants have a chance to sweep in Atlanta, which is nice. Good way to start the trip.

    So Gavin Floyd and Mike Minor returned to the Braves. They already bumped Hale to the bullpen as a long reliever/mop up guy. I kind of wanted to see more of him as a starter. He has some command issues which need to be ironed out but he has the stuff to be a decent addition to the rotation. Maybe if/when Harang returns to Earth (which has already started to happen) he will get another shot. Floyd still wants to be a starter but there doesn't appear to be any room.

    Harang returned to Earth and then was sent down to the molten core. I'm going to keep him on my fantasy team for one more start, though.

    Harang did what he was brought in to do. Get them through May until Minor and Floyd became healthy. His performance may have earned him a few more starts but I see him following the same path as Ben Sheets and Freddy Garcia. Gone by the All-Star break unless he is moved to the pen.

    A month and change into the season, Troy Tulowitzki has put together a slash line of .400 / .500 / .730, for an OPS of 1.230.

    This is mostly due to his 13 games at home, where he's batting an absurd .591 / .655 / 1.000 for an OPS of 1.655.

    Holy shit.

    I'm hoping Tulo can stay healthy for at least 80% of the season. It seems like the only thing holding him back has been the injuries.

    In really sad news, Jeff Hoffman, who was a consensus top-five draft pick (and it wasn't outside the realm of possibility for Houston to take him first overall), needs Tommy John surgery.

    Man, that's just awful for him. A month away from life-changing money and this happens. He's already college-aged, too, so this year off couldn't have possibly come at a worse time.

    2014 is definitely a statistical outlier (what happened to the Braves was just bizarre), but Tom has a point in that breaking balls thrown by kids are a really, really bad idea. The act of pitching a baseball is an unnatural motion that creates a lot of stress on the elbow and shoulder.

    Yeah, but he just went from getting life-changing, "fuck you" money to dropping at least a round or two, if not more.

    Good for you; I moved from coach-pitch to player-pitch at 8, was coached into throwing curveballs at 9, and had a slurve by 11. A few years after that, when I got into high school and was on varsity my freshman year, our pitching coach didn't care that I had an 89mph fastball, but rather how many breaking balls I could throw before my elbow swelled to the size of a grapefruit (and that is not unique, especially in high school). If my knee hadn't exploded in my senior year, my elbow would have.
