    Oh. Alrighty then. :)

(I was thinking of 42, but I'm fairly sure that was at least a small success. ;) )

If they have to waste precious screentime killing his character they should have just dropped him and killed him offscreen.

Well considering how much his character would overshadow everything else, I think maybe killing him off in the first movie would be the smart thing to do. At least if the new cast is ever going to make an impression.

Although it's kinda hard to think of a better way to go out than by blowing up a Death Star...

I figured Harrison took the role because people will never stop asking him about Star Wars. By doing a new one or more at least he'll be able to discuss it's relevance as compared to the ancient OT. I mean shit, how could anyone recall the events of 30 years ago clearly and want to agonize over them again and again? Not everyone wants to spend every moment of the present reveling in the past. I'm sure he's said more than he cares to about being in the Death Star trash compactor.

Speaking of those inevitable future discussions, I wonder if he's going to be as stand-offish and bizarre as usual next year when he's touring late night talk shows promoting the film. :D
Anyway, davejames is right about the impression episode 7 needs to make. Obi Wan died in episode IV and someone has to go the next time around. I'm just hoping it's not Luke and Leia, too. That's a bit too dark.

As long as his Episode VII promotional tour is even half as entertaining as this:

He did a similar bit on Conan recently, where he shouted at Chewie who was seated in the audience, IIRC. It was pretty amusing. The film he was there promoting didn't stick with me at all.

Or perhaps Ford wants Han to die - but not right away. After all, Episodes II and V (the middle episodes of the two previous trilogies) is when the proverbial bantha poodoo hit the fan and the real carnage was unleashed, and knowing the way the Saga's films tend to rhyme from a structural point of view Episode VIII could be when things in the new trilogy get really sticky and dangerous. That could provide the opportunity for Han to shine in and survive Episode VII, then commit heroic self-sacrifice in the next film, leaving Luke, Leia and the others to fend for themselves in the climactic confrontations of Episode IX, demonstrating that they can indeed go on without his presence to help them in their fight.

After all, Han was taken out of action towards the end of Empire. He didn't die of course, but he was absent from events until the early scenes of the next film.

If the ST is about the younger cast then your idea is terrible because it guarantees him hogging the spotlight for two films.

Meh. Maybe so. But let's face it, a whole lot of people aren't going to these new films for the fresh young faces. Han Solo is a bankable and tested character. For all we know he could be killed in VII, but I wouldn't be surprised if he hung on just a little bit longer for what he and the creators felt was better timing for a sacrifice.

The first episodes in both trilogies featured an older mentor character dying. I wouldn't be surprised if the sequel trilogy does the same thing. That kind of implies that Luke would be the ideal candidate for such a fate, but perhaps in this case it might be Han instead.

If Han dies it will devastate my 4-year old nephew. Han is his favorite character on any movie ever. He's seen Harrison Ford in Cowboys and Aliens, Ender's Game, and all the Indy movies and each time he goes "Look! It's Han Solo!"

Come December 2015, I forsee lots of crying on his part.

Yeah I have to admit that would be a bummer. MUCH more so than Obi-wan or Yoda dying in the OT. In fact I have to wonder if Disney would even want to allow such a thing to happen to a character so iconic and important to the franchise.

Re: New Casting and Story Rumors re: EPISODE VII

I guess in the end it'll all depend on Harrison's commitment to the new films. If his appearance in Episode VII was contingent upon Abrams and Kasdan killing off his character in some heroic sequence of the film then Ford will be the one controlling the whole thing. He wasn't exactly thrilled when Lucas refused to kill Han back during the OT era and isn't as emotionally involved in or connected to the character as he's been to, say, Indiana Jones, so who knows what went on behind the scenes to get him signed to appear.

I hope he's in all three movies, but it's no classified, buried secret that he wanted out of the original films. Maybe he's had a change of heart in recent years and come to realize that Han was a better and more valuable character than he used to think.

I can picture a scenario where it seems Luke is about to die and Han sacrifices himself to save him. Han's last words: "That's one more you owe me, kid."

Chances that Han Solo dies in #StarWarsEpisodeVII ... very high. In fact if this doesn't happen, I owe someone something.

Easy way of making me stop watching Episode VIII and IX: kill off Han Solo in Episode VII.
