i'm a born again Christian, and think the lack of real scripture being used is kinda dumb, and the overall witch-hunting trope of religious people. However, the Old Lady witch hunter seems like a "realisitic" villain that i would love to see get humiliated later.

In the internet age -- sure this would start spreading. But for the first few days, it's got to be real slow, and even then, it sounds more like an Onion story than something real. Snopes.com hasn't had time to verify the story. How did the french version of this show handle it?

I REALLY like Kurtwood Smith & Frances farmer in this. In particular, for these last 2 episode, Kurtwood Smith has has really shown some vulnerability we haven't seen in his other characters (Frances farmer showed her vulnerable side especially earlier).

there's only a couple episodes left --can't believe it. Clearly, the Sheriff's wife is alive, and we'll see her soon.

Caleb made some cryptic remarks, like he knows what's going on. Was he faking, or real? And if so, when/how did he learn the truth. And will the other Returned know?


After Walking dead, my wife & i have followed this show, a little more than Believe. We actually like them all.

The townspeople are keeping away from the revenants and are fearful of them when I think in reality people would be all over them asking them questions at the very least. I mean, if the world crowds into a town when someone has a potato chip they believe is shaped like a religious figure, why wouldn't they be even more excited about people returned from the dead?

In the French version, the town seemed to be a lot more isolated. There was a dam on one side of town, and mountains everywhere else. People had cell phones, but the power, from the first episode on, was always cutting out. And after the dam employees couldn't figure out why the water level was dropping behind the dam, they just left (might be a French thing)?
It's fun trying to see if/what matchups exist between the two versions. In The Returned, there's a dam slowing draining of water (which is found in the grave of one of the returned instead of a body); in Resurrection, it's a river.

The writers/producers have blissfully ignored it; heck, the only reason the FBI was even thinking of coming out was because Caleb's money was missing and when it was returned, they didn't come.

Why has no one asked why Bellamy is still there? They are paying him to sit on his ass as far as they can tell. Is he so incompetent that they are just happy he isn't screwing up on something?

I have no problem with a scientific or spiritual answer or wherever they go with the answers on the returned, but don't ignore the obvious stuff that is easily explained away or that should be happening.

His boss is covering for him...maybe he has some sick leave or vacation time he suddenly was using.

Apparently, next week, that Bellamy will indeed be in trouble. We'll see...maybe he gets reassigned or quits?

Personally, after having sat through 6 seasons of LOST, I feel like this show is at least starting out in a refreshing manner. It has questions, but people aren't afraid to ask them and even better people aren't afraid to say they don't know the answers (or if they do, they're not afraid to share them).

Where LOST went off the rails for me is when people would ask point blank questions to other characters, and even though those characters would know the answer, they'd stare at them for five seconds and walk away without saying anything.

At this point in the series, no one knows what is going on, but they're at least trying. Fear is a natural response, but I agree that at some point I want to see the believers vindicated. Pitchfork mentality is dangerous.

I'm ok with no scripture. They don't want to ruffle any feathers with religious folk, and this show isn't exactly trying to say these people came from God. That would actually be pretty blasphemous, and I'm Catholic. Especially with Easter being tomorrow.

The Rachel thing was coming because of the previews/commercials spoiling it weeks ago... but the huge influx of returnees is interesting.

For awhile it semed like everyone who appeared had died in Arcadia, but Korean War guy definitely seems like he died in Korea since he's shocked to not be there.

Is everyone who has returned someone who was buried in Arcadia?

No I think you misunderstand me. Jacob was born in Arcadia, and died in Arcadia, but ended up in China. Presumably the other returned also were born in Arcadia, and they definitely died in Arcadia. But they ended up elsewhere. Now all these people are showing up in Arcadia, regardless of where they died.

Ok, so they were buried in Arcadia. Still doesn't explain how they got back to Arcadia.

The formula was some kind of hand-wavey mumbo jumbo about the year of their death divided by the longitude they were found came out to the exact same ratio for three different people, and that working backwards from that ratio they could find other people's locations. But all these returned are returning directly to Arcadia, which nullifies the formula.

Only way I see this working is if all the people who showed up in the last episode all died the same year (some time in the early 1950s?) and then working back from the ratio it comes out to the exact longitude of the town of Arcadia. So they are all returning... to Arcadia.

Well...we're not exactly sure when they all returned. Jacob's Aunt has apparently been there for a few days, and the black family, about 1-2 days.

Many of them walked/hitchhiked from somewhere. They probably were not buried with money, so they'd have to figure out a way to get back, as well as get used to all the modern stuff.

He may not be evil, but he's a dumb ass. What did he think was going to happen?

I have two theories based on the last scene: Bellamy is a returned, but doesn't know it or separately or in addition to that, he is that baby Robert of that family.

Well clearly he is the baby.

I don't think he is a returned, but it would be interesting if he died back in the flood, then returned a lot sooner than the others and went on about life not knowing it.

If the show returns next year I wonder if there will be a time jump. At some point that boy is going to look too old to play an 8 year old.
