TOS actors in commercials

We've all seen Trek actors in TV commercials. I don't know if there's been a thread like this, but I'd thought I would start one where we could collect as many commercials as people can find.

Here's a collection of local Los Angeles commercials from 1985, one of which features George Takei representing the Los Angeles Conservancy.

I wish I had a copy of Shatner's circa-1993 commercial for the International Correspondence School. He briefly served as the replacement for Sally Struthers in those memorable ad spots ("Do you want to make more money? Sure, we all do").

Shatner did that famous Promise Margarine commercial in the 70's, and the "Meet my friend VIC" spot for Commodore in the 80's. And he's currently Mr. Priceline, of course.

There's the recent auto commercial with Nimoy and Quinto agreeing to meet each other for a round of golf. They make a bet whomever enters the club last will buy lunch. Quinto has the promoted vehicle (Audi, but it's a "concept" car, not a production model) and Nimoy the "competition". For each feature Quinto's demonstrates, Nimoy's comes up short. At one point we experience Nimoy humming "The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins"! Quinto beats Nimoy to the canopy in front of the club and smugly waits for Nimoy. When the latter exits his car, Quinto softly jibes Nimoy he has to pay. However, Nimoy reminds him of the exact wording, whomever "enters the club last" pays and with that casually places his arm around Quinto's shoulder...only to apply a nerve pinch that renders the younger man unconscious!

I thought that commercial was pure genius! Quinto gets the featured car, but Nimoy wins the bet!

The full version runs two and a half minutes and is no doubt available on YouTube. (I'm at work so I can't link it.)

Sincerely,

Bill

In the early to mid-1970s, I used to tune in a Canadian station to watch Star Trek on Saturday mornings. I recall seeing a few commercials with Shatner as the pitchman for Loblaws supermarkets and Promise margarine.

What would be really fun is to find old local station promos by the actors during the syndication runs of the 70s. Adam West and Burt Ward did them for Batman. At one city I lived near, the Three Stooges showed up on the kids' show that was airing their old 2-reelers (Channel 11 in St. Louis).

There was some cereal commercial that James Doohan appeared in, I can't remember what. I just remember him saying "I've got to have more milk!". Come to think of it, Deforest Kelley may have been in it, too. Was that the one where he said, "I'm an actor, not a doctor!"?

There the commercials that white lab coat George Takei did for those ultra-thin TV sets, it's where he uttered what appears to have become his catch phrase.

"Oh my."

:)

That commercial was about 2 years after I got caught in an MCI layoff after 8 or 9 years with them. The bastards.

I had a used '73 Plymouth Fury III for a while. It was like driving a boat. Big, white with a little black vinyl roof. I called it my battlecruiser.
