New Battlestar Galactica Movie

If it's going for the feel of the Moore series but with a more compact story, it should be great.

If they try to return it to the "fun" of the Seventies series...

I'd be interested to see something kind of in-between the two. A genuine sense of danger and acknowledging the gravity of the situation like in Moore's BSG, but keeping to the space opera roots of classic BSG.

Hmmm, feels anticlimatic after Hatch and Singer/DeSanto. At least they had an idea of what they wanted. After Conan, Total Recall, The Thing and so on I'm not crazy about a random reboot.

The Thing prequel was a different animal and wasn't at all bad. Not a match for the original, but it wasn't a "reboot" either and they showed a pretty impressive attention to detail... and managed a fresh take on the material that didn't screw up the connection with the Carpenter movie. No mean feat.

Neither the Conan or Total Recall reboots seemed worth the watch, so I couldn't speak to them.

I saw half of Total Recall and got bored. I don't really remember any detail. I know it wasn't on Mars and the lens flare level was higher than Bad Robot's demo reel. That RoboCop isn't much better, but it's RoboCop minus the charm and joy.

Boxey as the main character
Wasn't a grown-up Boxey one of the leads in Galactica 1980?

I might be on board for a Boxey movie if it were a sequel to the Ron Moore version. It would probably be a sci-fi slasher movie.

Yes.

But the actor who played little Boxy went on to play Atreyu in The Neverending Story.

If you subtract the bit where he cries about his dead horse, he's really hard core.

Hmmm, a Battlestar Galactica movie being made to combat an upcoming movie trilogy called Star Wars... this sounds so familiar...

This is dumb. The premise works for a tv show, not a movie.
Nah, the first time I ever saw Battlestar Galactica was in the movie theatre back in '78 and it was fun as it had Sensurround, which enhanced the spaceship scenes and laser gun fights.

But BSG could always work as a series of movies.

I want the Galactica arrive, and say hello. Then the Cylons arrive and say good bye.

We've done the run from the 12 colonies twice.

Lets see what happens on Earth this time that isn't Super Fucking Scouts?

In the comics, the Galactica tried to land on the white house lawn.

Stupid, stupid, stupid idea.

"Boom!"

The concept doesn't really seem to lend itself to a movie, unless, as Guy said, they intend to have sequel after sequel after sequel. I'd imagine the bulk of the movie would be the Cylon attack on the 12 Colonies and how the Galactica, alone, survives (minus any possibility of a Pegasus plot).

Done well, it will provide enough back story to explain who/what the Cylons are, why they hate the Colonies, etc. Then it will show the attack and Galactica escaping.

While it would be nice to see the concept be given the big screen treatment, I've got a feeling it'll turn out to be a nice, steaming, pile of felgercarb.

Cylons use swords.

Have you seen the new 300 movie?

What if the first movie is Just Cylons killing people until the 12 colonies are empty?

A Cylon with a huge mallet walking into a Kindergarten.

(Did they show closeups of Anikin killing the younglings?)

Just make it look like a first person shooter video game.

And then sell the game too.

Holy crap!

Noah Hathaway was in Sushi Girl!

That means that in a single crime heist gone wrong (and revenge) movie that they had representatives from Battle Star Galactica, Star Wars and Star Trek!

What a weird place to have a sit down.
