I have to admit, this movie has the biggest buzz ive seen for a scifi movie (most movies really) since Avatar.

I admit I was chuffed to see a poster for GODZILLA in the lobby of the movie theater when I went to see Captain America yesterday!

I see they've changed the halo jump footage; Godzilla is seen from a different angle, and he's fighting/under attack from the larger MUTO. You can see clearer shots of it in this gallery:

Ya know, it sucks that we had to wait another 16 years for the Godzilla movie we really wanted.

Hm? There have been six Godzilla movies made since 1998, the so-called Millennium Series of films, the last one being only ten years ago. The third of those six, Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack, is one of the most acclaimed G-films ever. And they're all available on DVD in the US. So I'm not sure what you're suggesting "we" really wanted that those films couldn't provide. An American Godzilla movie? An all-CGI Godzilla?

The one we hoped Godzilla 98 would be. A good big budget Godzilla movie. But hey, I'm pretty sure you could have sussed out what I meant by that statement to begin with.

^No, I couldn't have, because I don't assume a Godzilla movie has to be big-budget to be worth waiting for. That may be what you really wanted, but not what "we" really wanted. Different people want different things.

What I would ideally want is a good, reasonably high-budget (i.e. as much as it needed and no more), Japanese Godzilla movie. To me, any American Godzilla movie is a sidebar to the franchise. However good it may be, a Westernized Godzilla film... well, I don't consider it an ideal. I'd be fine with Legendary Pictures co-producing it with Toho, but I'd rather see it done with a primarily Japanese cast and in the Japanese language.

Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack is my favorite Godzilla movie! Great mix of CGI and suit guy.

It was pretty clear what you meant, and yes it does suck that it took this long to get one.

But, on the bright side, only a month more to wait.

Actually the suit is my least favorite part of GMK -- it's one of the ugliest Godzillas ever. It's the story and the characters that make that movie work. I care more about that side of things than I do about how elaborate the CGI is. The '98 movie had great visual effects; I actually quite like Patrick Tatopolous's design for the creatures in that film. I'm impressed by the visuals I've seen here, but it's the story that will determine whether it's a good Godzilla movie or not.

Ditto. I have an abiding affection for the Japanese series (even the bad ones), but was disappointed by the Emmerich film and have had no desire to rewatch. Edwards' feels like the big budget Hollywood take I've been waiting for.
