Every now and then, I hear a song - mainstream, lesser known, whatever - that absolutely brings to mind a specific genre show, movie, or book. The song isn't meant (I don't think) to reference anything like that, but in my mind, it's inescapable. What are some that would be on a playlist of this ilk?

I'll start: Sick Puppies, "Under A Very Black Sky". Holy crap if this one doesn't make me think about nuBSG a ton. And in specific, Gaius Baltar. In some sections, it's almost made for him! What do you all think?

Well, this is probably too obvious, but "Carry on Wayward Son" comes to mind.

Jenson Ackles has about as much fun being a TV star as I would if I had the chance.

Yeah, I thought of that too. Also All Along the Watchtower by Bob Dylan and We Used to be Friends by the Dandy Warhols.

I should mention that I can't listen to Dido without thinking of the Roswell kids.

Just about anything by Deodato, but certainly his version of "Also Sprach Zarathustra" (theme from 2001: A Space Oddysey)

I do this all the time. Fans have been doing it for decades now (yes, even before the interwebs!) and making music vids to them. But to answer your question, I always think of Kirk and his relationship to the Enterprise when I hear Billy Joel's She's Always A Woman to Me.

Se. I've always thought of Styx's "Lady" in that context. And the song "Heart of the Sunrise" by Yes makes me think of Logan's Run. Don't really know why-but it does.

"Birth Ritual" by Soundgarden. It was in the 1992 movie "Singles".

I don't know about anybody else, but to me it brings to mind of tv shows, movies, etc ... from that "grunge" time period, like Reality Bites, Friends, Melrose Place, etc ...

A Clockwork Orange occasionally flashes on my brain when hearing Beethoven's Ninth or Singing in the Rain.

"Don't Dream It's Over" by Crowded House and "Don't Fear the Reaper" by Blue Öyster Cult make me think of the Stand, because both were used in the TV series.

"The Joker" by the Steve Miller band is my theme for James T. Kirk.

The Power of Love always reminds me of Buffy and Angel. Every time it comes on the radio I play a virtual music video in my head! Never sure what to do with the "Hooded Claw" though!

I have this reaction to The Blue Danube Waltz!

In the vein of Star Trek, "The Planets" makes me think of STII.

Gowan's "Criminal Mind" for the Joker, and "Moonlight Desires" for the Batman-Catwoman relationship.

I'd say, the entire Nickel Creek catalogue for Firefly. Interesting thing is, apparently Joss Whedon was a big fan of them and went with similar style for the soundtrack.

To me, that song will forever be associated with the Simpsons

There are a couple of Mama Cass songs that were used on "Lost" that I now associate with the show, to wit, "Make your own kind of music" and "It's getting better."

You're not a child of the 80s, then, I take it? (Unlike myself!)

My pleasure. Glad you liked it. :)
