Fox Developing "Gotham" Young Jim Gordon Series

It'll probably feel like The Cape.

That's profoundly unlikely. The Cape embraced the broad, campy flavor of its comic-book inspirations, while Gotham is inevitably going to model itself on Nolan's Batman films. I mean, come on, how is it even conceivable that any live-action Batman production in this day and age would draw on anything other than Nolan for inspiration?

^ I think it'll feel like a network show and that's what came to mind. And I didn't think it was that campy. From what I remember, it was an attempt at a dark and edgy superhero show. Sure, Gotham may try to capture what we got with Nolan's films but I don't think it'll totally get there. It's still TV.

Come to think of it, the first Commissioner Gordon I knew, Neil Hamilton in the '66 series, was clean-shaven too. But I think he's the only previous one.

Someone in the comments section of another article had a good idea...

Most people don't look the same in their 20s or early 30s as in their 40s and 50s. Alfred doesn't have a bald head or pencil moustache in this incarnation, so Gordon's look doesn't bother me.

Although McKenzie is young looking, I see a weariness and haunted look in his eyes in that pic which I think serves the character well.

You know, it's only recently struck me how unusual it is to get this big a promotional blitz for a series that's still in the pilot-production stage. Okay, granted, it's already been picked up direct-to-series (meaning the first episode isn't strictly a pilot at all, but a premiere), but normally you wouldn't get all these press releases and in-character cast photos and everything this early in the game. I guess it's because there's so much attention directed toward this project -- and maybe because there's so much skepticism, so they're trying to win people over.
