wow! that's a cool topic and just the thing for a biologist. What a splendid surprise for my return to here!
Sorry that I was awol for almost 3 months - real life was a bit demanding lately: tons of deadlines to meet, meetings to attend, samples to take and examine, 4 shipwrecks (why the [insert un-ladylike vocabulary here] can't people read their nautical maps and hire a certified pilot?!), slight health issues & spring cleaning

I'll try to defend my position as best as I can and come up with something really special. The prob is that there are so many to choose from...

JiNX, your image was taken down. I don't know if you did it like it says or if it's a Photobucket hiccup, but let me know if you still want to be in the contest and replace the image if you do.

Oh, thanks, that's nice of you to say. :) But if it does win, I'll give the next round to whomever comes in second place. I don't want to hog the game.

I was clearing out duplicates in my photobucket, and I guess I got carried away.

    Here's my entry:

    My favourite freshwater algae: Pediastrum
(If you'd like to take a look for yourself: you find them in every puddle, rain-barrel etc). Here's a particularly pretty specimen:
