I'm happy with the amount of Indy and Han that we've gotten. I'm so burned out from the internet saying, "HELLZ YEAH, more INDY" and then turning around screaming "CRYSTAL SKULL IS THE SUCKS"

It is. And while I blame Lucas for that more than anyone else (the idiot was INSISTING on that stupid alien idea the whole time, delaying the film 15 years), the execution was also poor. The script was poor.

More Indy is NOT a bad thing, but just do it right. Crystal Skull after the first 30 minutes was like fanfic vomited on the screen. Send Indy on a journey of DISCOVERY, make him elude DANGER, make us smile again as he outwits bad guys, not Shia LeUseless.

Get rid of Lucas. Get rid of Shia. Give us a decent plot. That's all I ask.

You and me, yes. I enjoyed Crystal Skull too. Aliens and all. (In fact, I was long thinking there would be aliens--the movies always seemed to reflect the popular culture at the time the movie was being set.)

I honestly think they knew it was bad, but wanted to get the ball rolling anyway and said "We've kicked this idea around since 1993, let's just do it already and have fun like we used to. The fans will enjoy seeing Indy again and we'll make some money."

I'm one of the biggest Indyfans you'll ever meet. I was excited for Crystal Skull, aliens and all, initially. But I was so disappointed by the final product. I was dumbfounded that they gave us a movie without a sense of adventure, a sense of wonder, any suspense....if you compare the Grail Temple climax scenes to the Akator scenes, the latter just comes off limp, and the climax to the film is incredibly weak. . And even finding the dang SKULL had no sense of wonder to it, nor any suspense. They just found it. Ho hum.

It's a good-LOOKING movie. I do get the idea of bringing Indy into 1950's scifi on the face of it. Hell, nuking the fridge didn't bother me one bit either. But I expected more and the script didn't have enough essential Indy elements. I'm enough of a fan that I will go see more if they make them, but they have to do better next time

IMO of course. If you liked it, great.

None of those three are under any outside pressure.

I think they liked the idea and they wanted to make the movie.

I get that. However, the point I'm trying to make: this is the best movie they set out to make (whether they succeeded or not is up to debate) and most likely these are going to be the same people involved in the next one. At least two out of the three.

The original three are frozen in time, they won't change. But the people that made them have. It might not be possible to recapture the same spirit.

And, to be honest, why? The world has moved on. I would rather they try something new with Indy than "recapture" that spirit. Because I think recapturing that spirit can only fail.

No matter how good, a movie like this, and the same for Star Wars, will never be good as our high expectations. it was true for the prequels.

I'm not so sure about that myself. I remember reading lots of interviews with Spielberg and Ford talking about how much they loved making another Indy movie (which I'm sure was the prime motivating factor for those two), but I don't remember them raving much about the story itself.

At least not seriously. I know Ford did at one point go on Letterman and claim that "this is the best story we've done so far". But it hardly sounded genuine, and even those who enjoyed the movie can't possibly believe he really meant it (I mean, hello, Raiders?!?).

Although when Raiders was being written, Lucas sounds like a god damned voice of reason compared to the ideas that Spielberg had (related to Indy raping a 14 year old).

Nope, ultimately I think what happened was Spielberg and Ford really wanted to make another Indy movie, they realized Lucas's alien story was the only one he was going to let them do, and they tried to make it work as best they could.

And what we ended up with, despite its flaws (the inclusion of aliens not being one of those flaws, IMO), was a movie I had a BLAST seeing in the theater and have enjoyed watching several times over at home. I realize not everyone felt this way, but I got pretty much everything I wanted or expected out of the film, not the least of which was seeing Indy being his irreverent self again, as well as another John Williams Indy score (reason enough, IMO, to make at least two more Indy movies as soon as possible). So bring on the next films (if they are, indeed, going to be produced)!

But if they truly didn't like what the story was or the script, why say yes? After all this time? They hadn't wanted to until the write script--so they said. Why say yes to something you thought was "meh"? Surely they would recognize the expectation that would be there. That fans would want to see a great movie. I think it's cynical to think, 'yeah, this isn't very good, but, whatever, we get to hangout, am I right?'

None of the three HAD to make this movie. I believe they believed in it, going into it.

Rumour is that the script of Episode 7 was redone because they wanted the original people in it, and then not as much in Episode 8 and 9.

But it's all too little too late. Episodes 7-8-9 should have been done in the 90s and the prequels now because you don't need any of the old actors for the prequels.

All in all, it's all a damn joke.
