You guys all have such boring public transport.

This is what buses in my hometown look like:

    Sure, if style doesn't matter!

Why does it yell "New York Water Taxi" in such ridiculously huge letters? Is it to make sure people don't forget where they are?

ETA: Venetian gondolas should totally have huge letters saying "VENICE CITY GONDOLA!" on them. *facepalm*

Naw... the truth is, I've got nothing but bluster. I hate taxis.

    Trains win.

That's almost tragic coming from an American. I hope you'll build a decent national public transport network at some point. :)

Tragic coming from an american, not tragic coming from a New Yorker.

I've been using the Frecciarossa trains quite often recently, commuting to Milan for meetings and stuff. They don't have the esoteric quality of the first high-speed trains anymore, but I'd say it's pretty sweet to get into Milan in 1 hour when it took about 3 hours only a few years ago (without taking delays into consideration).

But that is the point, my dear! When it comes to trains, there are Americans, and there are New Yorkers. I fall in the latter category!

(Though, in all seriousness, I'd kill for a high speed train system in this country.)

A national high speed rail system would be wonderful.

    Can't argue there!

I was referencing logistics, though. ;)

But hey, I'm on your side...America is pathetically behind Europe on public transport. We need more trains!

This thread is making me feel inadequate. Not only don't we not have trams or passenger trains in Tasmania, we don't have any rollercoasters either.

    We do have water taxis.

    We also have this

Trains, buses, trolleys; we could use a lot more public transit. Rural America could really use some public transit. A taxi from my house to Covington Airport (right over the KY border, which is about 30 miles) is $90 one way.

A shuttle bus from one side of town to another is $5 one way. To schedule a shuttle from our town to a nearby town (say, for a doctor's appt.) is about $15-$25 one way.

We need better public transit badly.
