Caught a bit of the women's snowboarding earlier. Nice to see the UK pick up their first medal of these games.

The men's alpine skiing downhill :eek::eek: I have never seen a course as fast and as dangerous as that. Those skiers have far more guts than I will ever have.

I got up at 5am to watch the US women's curling team play. They started off great and then everything fell apart.

Well it's the round-robin stage in the curling. SO lots to play for.

Good day for Canada - kick things off with a gold in short track speed skating and end off with a gold and silver in the moguls. Though, a couple tough battles in men's curling against teams that you wouldn't think they'd have trouble against.

    I'll reiterate: USA! USA!

And way to go Peg, anyone from the upper midwest with a black Lab is a friend of mine.

    Labs rule!

So I got up again at 5am, this time to watch the US men's curling team. I expected them to lose to Norway, but I didn't expect them to get beaten badly by China.

Shaun Fucking White loses the halfpipe, who would've thought?...

Before the event I was rooting hard against him, but then I was kind of sad. I thought his final run had way more style than the winner's.

Not as badly as the USA womens team lost to the UK though 12-3 including a 7 point end. But medals aren't awarded at this stage.

I kind of saw this coming. He doesn't seem like the same guy since that crash that put him in the hospital. Not as aggressive as he used to be. He is more interested in his business.

He's an arrogant prick. It sucks USA doesn't win, but it doesn't suck that White lost.

He's not my favorite person in the world either, but I still feel for the guy.

I feel bad, but don't blame your shitty performance on the snow.

I wonder if White will retire after this Olympics? Probably a good idea...

I saw White after his run last night and on the Today show this morning. Not a single word congratulating the winners. It was all me me me. I understand better why people don't like him.

Anybody seen figure skating? So sad for the third pair. Nice run from the russians.

He did appear cheerful and congratulatory after seeing his score though, so there's that. How sincere that was, I don't know.

Anyway, I'm annoyed by the weird skater/surfer vibe of some of the snowboarder at the Olympics, especially the American who won the slopestyle. There's millions of dollars on the line, and possibly lasting fame if you play your cards right - you don't care whether or not you win? Then get the fuck home to play in the snow if that's what you want.

White is probably not the nicest person around, and he's apparently been somewhat of an outcast in the pro snowboarder scene his entire life, but at least he's not a hypocrite. He wants to win, he says he wants to win, and he usually does win. Snowboarders should just accept that their precious "fun sport" is becoming just as commercialised as everything else. There may be only one White now (although the Swiss winner of the halfpipe event seems to share his mentality anyway), but there's going to be twenty at the next Olympics.
