Best stress/anxiety relief methods!

Okay, everyone, we've all had moments of stress or anxiety or even panic attacks. And we all have ways of dealing. How do you deal?

My current method involves hacking away at English ivy.

When I can: meditation.
When I can't meditate: An iron constitution.

Dealing with whatever is stressing me out, or taking action of some kind. I've been stressed about packing for my trip so the other night I took everything out and tried packing my suitcase. Everything fit, so now I'm not stressed about doing it in a week.

Oh, fine, just be all intelligent and practical and deal with things in the best way possible. What about those of us who want to let procrastination grow a mildly stressful situation slowly, day by day, until we're utterly paralyzed into inaction and buried under tons of unopened mail? Huh?

Sorry! I've actually suffered from serious anxiety in the past, including panic attacks. I was on medication for awhile but have been off it for years and realized that I need to be more proactive in how I deal with my anxiety. I still have triggers, and it's not always possible to deal with the problem directly. But even if it's something more general or distant, there's usually something I can do to work toward a goal.

I've found that not doing anything can make it worse and become paralyzing, as you've mentioned. It will probably always be a bit of a struggle for me but it's been a pretty good strategy so far.

Booze and baseball.

(I think that shall be the title of my autobiography if I ever write one)

Also if I have a particularly fucked-over day at work, Rammstein on my way home also works quite well.

J. Allen I appreciate that. :)

Being numb or pain that doesn't feel like pain but release feels good. I am a mess I know. :sigh:

Sorry, I deleted my post because after yours it seemed kinda inappropriate.

To answer your question: any and all kinds of sex!

A long hot shower--like staying in until-the-hot-water runs-out long shower.

Putting on some sad music and having a good cry. It does make me feel better, in a strange way.

Getting involved in some menial task that takes my mind off things--like a mindless video game, vacuuming, etc.

Going on a drive, putting on some of my favorite music and just rocking out.

If it's something I actually have control over, I'm all into prepping---making lists, mapping routes, rehearsing the event in my mind, leaving early, etc.

If it's something over which you have ZERO control, distraction is the way to go (*look! shiny object!*) but if you do have some modicum of control over it, then prepare, prepare, prepare.

I was just teasing. I admire you. :)
I'm trying, but I do have problems with paralyzing procrastination and disproportionate anxiety.

There's nothing like a good cathartic cry. I've got a nice little playlist of songs and TV show episodes that are bound to bring the tears for just such an occasion.

There's nothing like a good cathartic orgasm. I have a nice little book of names and phone numbers for just such an occasion.

It depends on the stress and the reasons behind it. Going to the fitness center helps me. But this requires to pack a sports bag first and to drive all the way down to town. So, if I need a quicker solution I go for a walk. Luckily I live near a nice forrest that is literally around the corner.

A few years ago I bought a book about meditation, but for some strange reason I've never read it. Since I've got some extra time now, I want to look into this subject again and try it out.

However, my favorite method is going to "my happy place". I suppose this is kind of a meditation technique, too. Whenever I can't sleep because there are so many things going through my mind, I try to construct places in my imagination. For example, once I thought about building a tree house on a deserted island from which I could see the ocean. The goal is to let go of useless baggage, so all of my happy places have a relaxing atmosphere.

So true. When I had exams, I felt so much better and less stressed when I was prepared.

It really has become going to the gym. Which I never thought I'd say a few years ago, but I really like going three times a week to have a good, draining work out.

Also, sleeping in on Saturdays.

People have mentioned crying, and yes, at times I do put on a sad movie or episode of something and cry a good bit. Which I would really bawl though, that would be great for my mood at times.

I need me one of those books. Well, technically, I have one with one name and number, but it's good to diversify.
