Is Mr Nimoy's health ok?

VOODOOXI

I'm not sure if this topic should even be mentioned here, but I ask the question out of genuine concern for Mr Nimoy's health after seeing several articles in the press about Mr. Nimoy looking "frail" while in a wheelchair...Please don't misconsctrue this post for being sensational.

In general Leonard seems to be in amazing shape for an 82 year old man. I hope all is well with him. Hopefully he was just having a bad day in these photos...LLAP Leonard!

I read the article yesterday also, doesn't look great does he? Hopefully it's just something short lived, like you said he's always seemed very sprightly for his age

He looks alright. I imagine at his age standing around airports and meeting folks could be taxing, so he was given an assist. I sure hope he's good to go for some time to come.

Glad to hear that is doing well at his age, we should all be so lucky when we reach his current age.:)

He looks great to me. Airports are friggin' huge. I don't blame him one iota for being pushed around an airport between gates or terminals. This isn't an indication of anything.

Nimoy is 82 years old (so already beyond the statistically average life expectancy for a male in the U.S.), drank like a fish and smoked like a chimney for decades, and again he's 82 years old. Dude looks pretty good, all things considered.

I mean, shit, have you ever been in JFK? That place is huge; at 82, I sure as hell wouldn't want to walk a mile from the gate to the ground transportation.

The picture I saw had him using an oxygen cylinder in JFK. It worried me when I saw it.

That's what I was referring to. I guess I'm just used to seeing him in the recent TV spots with Quinto where he seemed very lively and young for his age, I'm not trying to talk the guy down or anything I'd be gutted if anything happened to him

Yes, I saw the picture and read the article too. Seems to me to be more along the lines of tabloid press who publish pictures and articles that are (to be kind), unflattering - then call it news. After an immediate scare, I wrote off the whole deal as just a way to sell a few more papers.
As noted above, JFK is indeed huge, and Mr. Nimoy is less than two months from 83, with a good many miles on him. I hope he has more happy, and reasonably healthy time ahead - as much as he wants anyway. LL&P

He looks fine to me. When I'm 80, I sure don't plan to walk through airports!

By the time I'm 80, I plan on levitating through them.

As for Leonard, he's probably just fine. Being 82 and having to walk through a huge airport can get to you.
And air pressure changes can be hard for the elderly, especially if they were smokers like Mr Nimoy was. The oxygen could be there just to make the flight more comfortable rather than due to some health crisis.

he tweeted tonight about being diagnosed with COPD because of his smoking in the past.

@TheRealNimoy 4h I quit smoking 30 yrs ago. Not soon enough. I have COPD. Grandpa says, quit now!! LLAP

Agreed.

As for the COPD, it happens to the best of us. My Uncle has it, and even though he quit smoking, my Aunt refuses to quit.

Hopefully, he'll be happy and healthy, and with us for a long time still. If nothing else, he still has to sign my copy of "Shekhina," that I brought to the convention 3 years ago (he had a gall bladder emergency, and wasn't able to attend). :p

I lost both of my parents over the past five years, one to emphysema and one to lung cancer. Both were born in the early 1930's and lived good long lives, but of course I miss them greatly, and I think about them almost every day.

I dread the day that we lose a wonderful person like Leonard Nimoy. I'm not saying that it will hurt in the same way, but it will hurt.

He doesn't look that bad. Getting into a "wheelchair of convenience" at the airport is not like being confined to a wheelchair, anymore than having Novacaine at the dentist is like being hooked on drugs. :bolian:
